Barcelona's top 10 home kits of all time – ranked

The Blaugrana have worn some memorable and big-selling home kits over the years, but which were the best ever?

You'd be hard-pressed to find a club more loyal to its colour scheme than Barcelona's infatuation with their red-and-blue combination. And for good reason. The combination pays homage to Catalunya — a nod to the club's heritage as much as its sporting success.

Over the years, though, the scheme has become iconic as its own entity. And with Barcelona having released the latest iteration of the Blaugrana stripes with their 2023-24 kit, GOAL takes a look at the best Barca home kits from down the years…

10A shirt to silence the Bernabeu (2004-05)

Barcelona enjoyed a turnaround in fortunes 2004-05, breaking a six-year wait for the Liga title, thanks largely to an immense squad overhaul.

But it was a player who remained at the club who made the difference. Ronaldinho won the FIFA World Player of the Year, and got the Santiago Bernabeu crowd to rise to its feet with one iconic performance. This shirt, in truth, wasn't particularly memorable in its short sleeves. But the long-sleeve version was gorgeous.

AdvertisementGetty9MSN win the treble (2014-15)

The football that Barcelona played in this shirt was simply sublime. It is, objectively, slightly unfair to have Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar all on the same team, but the trio lit up Europe, with manager Luis Enrique's constructing a side that allowed three of the world's best attacking players to run riot.

And this kit, that so easily hashed modern Nike design with the classic Blaugrana stripes of old, is a memorable one.

Getty Images8Dream teams and dream kits (1992-95)

The Kappa design, the Barca imprint, the stitching around the badge, the v-neck fit. Everything about this shirt was stylish and classy. And, 30 years on, it's aged an absolute charm.

The squad that wore it, Johan Cruyff's famous 'Dream Team', wasn't bad, either. They won four consecutive La Liga titles from 1991-94, dominating domestic football with their eye-catching style.

This strip marked the end of that era, but still saw some remarkable moments. Barca beat Real Madrid to the Spanish title on the final day in 1993, and pipped Deportivo on goal difference the year after. It is also best remembered for Romario's 30-goal debut season.

Getty Images7A remontada strip (2016-17)

The Blaugrana switched to a rather controversial horizontal stripe in 2016, but quickly did away with it the year after. This one felt like something of an overcorrection at first, and appeared to be a rehash of the familiar Nike design that dominated Euro 2016's kits.

But the signature bits of it, the V-neck and bright accents, made it special. The shirt was also worn during the Blaugrana's famous "remontada" win over Paris Saint-Germain. Not a bad memory to be associated with!

Here's where you can watch Toronto vs Atlanta United in MLS on TV or stream live.

Toronto will host Atlanta United at BMO Field on Saturday in an attempt to extend their unbeaten streak in the MLS to seven games.

The Five Stripes drew 1-1 last week, while the Toronto and Nashville SC drew 0-0, the Reds' second straight draw.

Bob Bradley's team have won just one of their matches to date but have been in a position to claim three points on five separate occasions, including in Atlanta at the beginning of March when they had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

That killer instinct has not been there as often as needed this season, but defensively they look much more compact, claiming their third clean sheet of the campaign last weekend, equalling their mark from 2022.

The Reds lead the league in draws this season with five and are currently holding onto the final wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference with eight points, one fewer than last year's conference champions, the Philadelphia Union.

After suffering a resounding 6-1 defeat at the hands of the Columbus Crew two weeks prior, Atlanta's performance in New York City was considerably improved.

It is not easy to play on that small pitch at Yankee Stadium, especially if your team relies heavily on possession, but the Five Stripes were smart and quick with their decisions, creating their fair share of space and scoring chances.

Gonzalo Pineda expressed dissatisfaction with the match's officiating afterwards, claiming his team needs to gain respect and win more championships to obtain calls from the officials.

The first time this year that his team failed to win after taking the lead was on Saturday when they were reduced to 10 men after an hour of play but still managed to take the lead minutes later.

GOAL brings you everything you need to know about where to watch the game on TV and stream live online.

PSG player ratings vs Milan: Never doubt Kylian Mbappe! French striker bags brilliant solo strike as Luis Enrique's men rout Rossoneri

The French forward led a rampant attack as the French champions stormed to the top of Champions League Group F

After a mini-goal drought, it was only a matter of time before Kylian Mbappe found his best again. And the forward appears to be well on his way to doing so, scoring for the second straight game as Paris Saint-Germain comfortably beat AC Milan to go top of their Champions League group.

Mbappe bagged the first, and Randal Kolo Muani and Lee Kang-In followed to hand the Parisians a comfortable 3-0 win. Milan offered some threatening moments in the early goings. Rafael Leao caused problems on the left and curled one narrowly outside the post within 25 minutes.

But PSG were too dangerous on the break. Warren Zaire-Emery started the move that opened the scoring, bursting through the Milan midfield ranks before feeding Mbappe. And the France star did the rest, cutting inside his man before arrowing an effort into the bottom corner.

The Parisians thought they had taken a 2-0 lead when Ousmane Dembele finished a well-worked move, but Manuel Ugarte was adjudged to have committed a foul in the build-up. There was no such mishap shortly after, though, when Mike Maignan parried a shot into Kolo Muani's path – handing the new signing his third PSG goal.

Lee provided the decisive third, tucking Zaire-Emery's cutback into the bottom corner, finding the net for the first time in a PSG shirt.

GOAL rates PSG's players from Parc des Princes…

Getty Goalkeeper & Defence

Gianluigi Donnarumma (7/10):

Almost embarrassed himself with an awkward headed clearance early in the second half. Made a couple of important saves.

Achraf Hakimi (6/10):

Had trouble with the lively Leao in the first half and wasn't at his best going forward, either.

Marquinhos (8/10):

Handled Olivier Giroud reasonably well and progressed the ball effectively. A commanding presence at the back.

Milan Skriniar (7/10):

A steady night. Won most of his aerial duels and kept things tidy.

Lucas Hernandez (7/10):

A solid showing at left-back. Kept Christian Pulisic quiet for long stretches and supported Mbappe well on the wing.

AdvertisementGetty Midfield

Manuel Ugarte (6/10):

Held down the middle effectively, even if a silly foul of his saw a goal ruled out. Got a deserved rest for the last 20 minutes or so.

Vitinha (7/10):

Nearly had an assist, only to see a goal ruled out. Connected with the front line, and put in plenty of legwork, too. He's been much-improved this year.

Warren Zaire-Emery (8/10):

His lung-busting run through the midfield helped create the first goal. Won the ball back regularly and kept things ticking in the middle. Picked up three assists. Quickly becoming one of the world's best young talents.

Getty Attack

Ousmane Dembele (6/10):

Thought he had his first PSG goal, but saw it ruled out. Was otherwise wasteful in the final third. It's not quite working out for him in Paris – yet.

Randal Kolo Muani (7/10):

Couldn't really miss from close range to open his PSG Champions League account. Was otherwise full of movement and pace. Seems to have the centre-forward spot nailed down.

Kylian Mbappe (8/10):

Scored a signature goal to give his side a 1-0 lead. Was a constant threat throughout and could have easily added one or two more.

Getty Subs & Manager

Fabian Ruiz (7/10):

Offered a bit more control in the middle.

Lee Kang-In (7/10):

Bagged his first goal for the Parisians.

Goncalo Ramos (N/A):

Didn't have enough time to make a mark.

Nordi Mukiele (X/10):

No time to make an impact.

Luis Enrique (7/10):

Went back to a 4-3-3 after getting a good result against Strasbourg last weekend. And it worked. PSG were pretty much in control throughout, and devastating on the break at times. Not perfect, but the Parisians were immensely effective.

New Zealand have also added batsmen Dean Brownlie and Tom Latham to their squad of 14 for the first match of the series.Latham and Brownlie, who are both making a return to the ODI squad, were included to make up for the losses of Ross Taylor, who is out of the series with a calf injury and Kane Williamson, who will miss the first match because of a problem with his wrist.”Tom had a very good tour to the West Indies with the Test team and also impressed in the warm-up match in Lincoln, while Dean was in strong form on the recent NZ A tour to the UK,” Mike Hesson, the New Zealand coach, said.Brownlie, 30, played the last of his three ODIs in July 2012 while Latham, 22, has not featured in the ODI side since New Zealand’s tour of Sri Lanka last year.Mount Maunganui, which is hosting the first two ODIs, will debut as an international venue. Super Kings make mockery of 184 chase

Kieron Pollard and Rohit Sharma did their best to help Mumbai Indians set a challenging target for Chennai Super Kings, but a whirlwind opening partnership between Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum compounded Mumbai’s misery

The Report by Amol Karhadkar17-Apr-2015

Agarkar: Super Kings won’t lose IPL if openers bat this way

Kieron Pollard and Rohit Sharma did their best to help Mumbai Indians set a challenging target for Chennai Super Kings, but a whirlwind opening partnership between Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum made a mockery of a 184-run chase. The six-wicket win at the Wankhede Stadium was Super Kings’ third in as many games, even as their opponents suffered their fourth consecutive loss of the season. That Mumbai posted a total as challenging as 183 was down to the knocks from Rohit and Pollard, who lifted the side after yet another top-order collapse. This time, it was Ashish Nehra’s accurate bowling that left Mumbai reeling at 62 for 4 at the halfway stage. Their partnership of 75 came off only 33 deliveries and played a large part in helping the home team add 121 runs in the last 10 overs. That partnership paled in comparison to the onslaught by McCullum and Smith. By the time the the batsmen holed out in the deep to Harbhajan Singh in the eighth over, Super Kings had raced to 115 and the target was almost down to less than a run a ball for the remaining 12 overs. The pair were at their harshest between the fourth and sixth overs. They combined to hammer ten fours and two sixes as the three overs fetched 61 runs. The bowler at the other end didn’t matter – Lasith Malinga, J Suchith and Harbhajan Singh were each hit for four boundaries in their overs. The assault helped Super Kings raise the second-highest Powerplay tally in the IPL overall. The highlight of McCullum’s 20-ball 46 was the glide over the keeper off Pawan Suyal in the seventh over. McCullum was almost facing Parthiv Patel when he helped the ball over the fine-leg fence, bringing up the hundred for Super Kings. Both batsmen fell within five balls but the stage was set for Super Kings to bring their batting depth into play and improve on their net run rate. Suresh Raina achieved the objective with a trademark cameo, helping Super Kings overhaul the target with 20 balls to spare.Just like their batsmen set up the chase in the Powerplay overs, the Super Kings bowlers set up the game in Mumbai’s Powerplay. The hosts had a new opening pair in Parthiv Patel and Lendl Simmons, who replaced the injured Aaron Finch, but Parthiv was trapped in front of the wickets for a golden duck by Ashish Nehra off the fourth ball of the innings. In Nehra’s next over, Faf du Plessis pulled off a stunning catch to see the back of the dangerous Corey Anderson. When Simmons gave du Plessis catching practice off Ishwar Pandey, Mumbai had been reduced to 12 for 3.If Mumbai’s decision to make Rohit bat at No. 4 was not surprising enough, Harbhajan was sent in at No 5, ahead of Kieron Pollard and Ambati Rayudu. Harbhajan stemmed the fall of wickets with a 45-run partnership, before Rohit and Pollard set the up the innings. Between the 10th and 15th overs of the innings, Mumbai raced from 62 for 4 to 132 for 5, with Pollard and Rohit taking 26 runs off one Ravindra Jadeja over.In the end, a score of 183 proved to be far from enough for the home team.

From Perisic to Willian: Who are Man Utd’s transfer targets this summer?

The Red Devils have a number of possible additions in their sights as they look to build a squad which can win the Premier League in 2018-19

Having finished 19 points behind neighbours Manchester City in 2017-18, Manchester United headed into the summer knowing that there was plenty of work to be done in the transfer market to mount a serious challenge next season.

They have already added Fred to their midfield supplies and brought in Diogo Dalot as another full-back option, as well as signing Lee Grant as their third-choice goalkeeper, but there are still a number of players in their sights.

Below,  Goal  goes through 10 of the targets they have in their sights, starting with the more serious possibilities and working down to those who are consider back-up possibilities.

Getty Images1Leonardo Bonucci

AC Milan’s financial issues, which have seen them ruled out of the Europa League for the coming season, may well lead to them allowing a couple of major assets to leave. And with a €14m annual salary, Leonardo Bonucci is currently one of the biggest financial liabilities the Rossoneri have.

United have been credited with an interest by some reports in Italy, and Mourinho’s desire to add a centre-back means a move may not be out of the question.

But United’s name may well be being used as leverage for Milan to get a better deal, with PSG among those potentially being enticed to splash out on a man who cost €40m last summer when leaving Juventus for San Siro.

Advertisement2Milan Skriniar

Inter defender Milan Skriniar has caused quite a stir with his performances in Serie A of late, and United are known to be big admirers. The 23-year-old was a stand-out in the Nerazzurri’s run to Champions League qualification in 2017-18 and it prompted United to show a serious interest.

But Skriniar told the Slovakian FA website earlier this summer that his current club had taken a decision out of his hands by rejecting United’s approach. “I’m glad they are interested in me, but Inter decided what they decided so I cannot say anything more about it. However, I am satisfied.”

That would appear to end the story on Skriniar for this summer at least, unless United decide to go for a bank-busting offer rather than seek out a deal with one of their higher priorities.

Getty3Harry Maguire

World Cups are rarely the shop windows they used to be given the vast scale of knowledge of the global club scene these days, but it is fair to say that Maguire’s stock has risen markedly after taking to the international stage with great confidence during England’s run to the semi-final in Russia.

With Leicester City likely to want a huge return on their £17m investment last summer, United would have to part with a sizeable sum for the 25-year-old but Mourinho could be persuaded that he is the best option as he looks to add a centre-half with Premier League experience and a degree of comfort in possession.

Getty4Ante Rebic

While Croatia team-mate Perisic has been a long-term target, Ante Rebic has been thrust into United’s view following his performances at this summer’s World Cup.

Though the club have watched him develop with Eintracht Frankfurt over the last couple of years, it has been his form with his country over the last month which has had them believing he may be a good fit at Old Trafford.

Mourinho’s insistence that he already has what he needs in attack doesn’t tally with a move for both Perisic and Rebic unless there are to be outgoings too, but United might well decide that the 24-year-old is a worthwhile addition for the longer term regardless of whether he was initially a part of their transfer plan.

‘We’re getting in at 4am!’ – Chelsea boss Emma Hayes hits out at fixture scheduling and calls on FA to do more amid European commitments

Emma Hayes has slammed the Football Association's fixture scheduling after her Chelsea side played their third game in just six days.

Chelsea beat Liverpool 5-1 on SaturdayJust over 48 hours after returning from MadridHayes criticises scheduling as games pile upGettyWHAT HAPPENED?

The Blues beat Liverpool 5-1 early on Saturday afternoon in the Women's Super League, just over two days after landing back in the UK in the early hours of Thursday morning following their 2-2 draw with Real Madrid in the Champions League.

The London outfit also played Everton in the WSL last Sunday and now manager Hayes has called on the FA to improve their scheduling due to their congested fixture list.

AdvertisementGettyWHAT EMMA HAYES SAID

After the Liverpool win, Hayes told reporters: "We're the only English team in Europe (this season). Yet we're the only association that doesn't help its team in Europe. Spain do, France do, Germany do. We don't and that for me is disappointing. We're working against ourselves. There's a rule in place that means you can put a Saturday game on at 1:30 for TV, because we've had two days between games.

"But they aren't factoring in that we are getting in at half four in the morning. Why are we getting in then? Well there's drug testing so you can't just leave. On that first day you're like a zombie and the second is just about getting your legs moving. If you get home at 4am in the morning, it screws a night's sleep.

"Don't we want an English team to progress in Europe? It's already hard enough. The rest of Europe look at us and think their league doesn't even help them. Don't you think it is a little bizarre that we're the only team to play this weekend after being the only team to play Wednesday and play Sunday night away from home?"

GettyTHE BIGGER PICTURE

This will be Hayes' last season in charge of Chelsea after taking up the role in 2021. Since then the 47-year-old has won 13 major trophies but when the 2023/24 campaign ends in May, she will become the next boss of the United States women's national soccer team.

The Blues are chasing a fifth straight WSL crown and Hayes will want her side to win the Champions League, among other major trophies, in her last hurrah at the west London side. Therefore, getting some extra respite between games will be key to their success.

All-time great has been nursing a knockLimited game time for Inter MiamiIn qualification action against ParaguayWHAT HAPPENED?

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner sat out a 2026 World Cup qualifying clash with Bolivia back in September after picking up an untimely knock. That problem restricted him to just 72 minutes of game time for Inter Miami in MLS before heading off with the Albiceleste once more.

Messi was kept on the bench for 53 minutes of a meeting with Paraguay, but made an impressive cameo as he struck the woodwork on two occasions and tangled with Antonio Sanabria – who spat at him – in a hard-fought 1-0 win for the 2022 World Cup winners.

WHAT THEY SAID

De Paul, who is a close friend of the all-time great, is delighted to have Messi back alongside him, telling of how the mercurial 36-year-old makes life easier for everybody when he is on the field: “Although we play at a very high level, we always miss him, we always want to have him in. I hope he can come back in the next game because with him everything is always better. For me it is a pleasure to turn around and see him.”

Al-Khelaifi says PSG switch 'wasn't easy' for MessiBelieves Barcelona was built around Argentinian Dovetailing with Mbappe and Neymar took timeGetty ImagesWHAT HAPPENED?

In a wide-ranging interview with RMC, Al-Khelaifi reflected on the challenges of the last few seasons at a club where European success has proved elusive, despite the vast array of talent assembled in the French capital.

In particular, Al-Khelaifi zeroed in on why Messi never hit the heights of his Barcelona days at the Parc des Princes.

Speaking to former PSG midfielder Jerome Rothen, Al-Khelaifi explained: "I'll say one thing about Messi, he's the best player in the world and the best player in history. It wasn't easy for him to come here after a few years, you have to look at Barcelona. There, everything was for Messi: the players, the coaches and the management. He comes here and it's not the same thing, we also have other players, we have Kylian and also Neymar."

In his two seasons in France, Messi won the Ligue 1 title twice and scored a respectable number of goals. But despite also winning a World Cup with Argentina while a PSG player, the feeling was that Messi never quite produced his glittering best in Paris.

PSG crashed out of the Champions League at the round of 16 stage in both of Messi's seasons at the club, looking alarmingly unbalanced in defeats to Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Women's World Cup Team of the Tournament: Bronze and Rapinoe star as Morgan misses out

After the United States lifted the title in Lyon, Goal picks out the best XI of players from this summer's competition

GettyGK | Sari van Veenendaal

After making two superb and crucial saves in the Netherlands’ 1-0 extra time win over Sweden in the semi-finals, Sari van Veenendaal secured the Golden Glove prize at the Women’s World Cup by making eight in the final against the United States.

Her incredible save percentage of 82.14 from 28 shots faced proved hugely important as the Oranje upset the odds to reach the final, and her saves kept them in that game, too, before the USA emerged 2-0 winners.

The 29-year-old left Arsenal at the end of the season but her superb performances in France will certainly not leave her short of suitors this summer.

AdvertisementRB | Lucy Bronze

Phil Neville has called Lucy Bronze the best player in the world for most of his spell in charge of England, and she showed just why this summer – winning the Silver Ball in the process.

The 27-year-old won 15 of her 17 tackles at the tournament and 17 of her 27 aerial duels, but also proved a huge asset going forward – creating nine chances, providing two assists and scoring once from right-back.

Bronze’s performance against Norway in the quarter-finals was a particular highlight, in which she supplied a contender for goal of the tournament with her thunderous strike from the edge of the box.

GettyCB | Abby Dahlkemper

Abby Dahlkemper was a crucial cog in the American winning machine that charged to World Cup glory this summer, providing the United States with solid, reliable and error-free performances that allowed them to ship just three goals in seven games.

With her centre-back partner Becky Sauerbrunn having a few shaky moments, Dahlkemper proved even more important, particularly in games such as those against France and England when Jill Ellis’ side found themselves under sustained pressure.

Cool under pressure, tactically aware and rarely out-muscled, the 26-year-old had a truly fine tournament.

GettyCB | Dominique Bloodworth

Many would expect the Netherlands’ attackers to have been the stars of their unlikely run to the final, but their success was more down to grit and teamwork and few embodied that better than Dominique Bloodworth.

The defender excelled at centre-back, winning 10 of her 15 tackles and 10 of her 13 aerial duels while also showing the technical ability that makes her such a fantastic holding midfielder as well.

Her versatility saw her moved to left-back for the final and even that didn’t stop her from putting in a solid display, with the 24-year-old heading to new club Wolfsburg off the back of a stellar tournament.
