Delhi and Tamil Nadu, both on equal points at this stage, take on each other in the Ranji Trophy group match at Kotla

On most occasions and in many ways, Delhi and Tamil Nadu have little in common. When they meet at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Saturday, though, much around them will be similar. This will be the fourth Ranji Trophy group stage game for both sides. Not only are they on equal points, Delhi and Tamil Nadu could also be equally piqued at having come away from one draw with a single point.Tamil Nadu’s opening match against Odisha in Cuttack had the better part of the game washed away due to rain. In their last match, Delhi couldn’t get across the line to snatch the first-innings points against an obdurate Baroda at home.The sole point of difference, though, is that Tamil Nadu have not been beaten this season. Delhi, a full-strength one no less, were defeated by UP in their season-opener in Ghaziabad. The best way for Delhi to put up any gap on the points table between the visitors and themselves is an outright win. Delhi certainly have the bowlers to do it; their most experienced and skillful, Ashish Nehra, however is an uncertain starter, even though he trained with the team on the eve of the match.Delhi’s winter has set in and theoretically, seaming conditions are said to be on offer in the first session of play. The main question, though, will be about which kind of Kotla pitch turns up at the game on Saturday: the familiar 22 yards that are respectfully built over a medieval graveyard or the oft-promised-but-never-seen Gabba-model with bounce and carry?In the past few seasons, when seeking an advantage for their seamers or getting their ground ready for an international fixture, Delhi have often shifted their Ranji venue to the Roshanara Club north of the city said to have the liveliest of pitches in the city. But no more, they say, because results have not really gone in the home team’s favour. Of the nine matches played at Roshanara, for which the DDCA has had to pay the private club a daily fee, Delhi have won merely three. Of the three matches played after that last win in December 2010, Delhi have been beaten by Railways, and have drawn against Mumbai and Haryana. It would appear that Roshanara has now lost its allure. All it remains now is for Kotla to gain some.Delhi have increased their squad to 15 with the introduction of Vaibhav Raval, who has scored three consecutive centuries for Delhi under-25s. At the time of reporting, M Vijay had not yet been released from Indian team to play for Tamil Nadu.

Marquei muitos gols e, na Copa Libertadores, fizemos um bom papel – disse Borja, que chegou às semifinais com o Verdão, caindo diante do Boca Juniors na semifinais, e que balançou as redes do próprio Junior Barranquilla quatro vezes na fase de grupos (uma na vitória por 3 a 0 na Colômbia e três no 3 a 1 no Allianz Parque).

– O Junior está fazendo um jogo muito vistoso, tem jogado muito bem. Espero que seja campeão, como todos queremos como torcedores – continuou o centroavante colombiano.

Justin Langer will complete his duties with Australia’s Test team in Brisbane before an expected announcement of his appointment as the new coach of Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers.Following the resignation of the WA coach Lachlan Stevens, Langer was approved as the WACA’s “preferred candidate” for the job at a board meeting on Wednesday night.However he will aid Australia’s tilt at securing a 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series against South Africa at the Gabba before returning home to Perth.Langer had been keen to seek a senior coaching role for some time, applying for the WA job previously and also the Australian coaching role following Tim Nielsen’s exit. More recently he had been in discussions with Somerset about joining the county side as director of cricket.”We respect Justin has a very important job to do over the next five days assisting the Australian team in what is a vital match against the world’s number one Test team,” the WACA chief executive Christina Matthews said.”We will therefore allow him to concentrate on that task before we intend to speak with him about the position of Warriors and Scorchers Head Coach, and hope to make a positive announcement shortly after the completion of the Brisbane Test.”Adam Voges, meanwhile, has been confirmed as WA’s captain for the rest of the 2012-13 season. Voges led WA to a nine-wicket loss against Victoria at the MCG on Wednesday night.”Adam has served as vice-captain of the Warriors since 2007-08 and in that time he has skippered the team on a number of occasions in the absence of Marcus North,” Matthews said. “He is an outstanding leader and we are of the firm belief that he is the best man to lead the Warriors for the rest of the summer.”

The England batsman blasted 36 off 16 balls with a four and three sixes, the third of which off a full toss from Luke Wright secured victory with two balls to spare.Pietersen had lost his opening partner Steve Davies in the first over thanks to a brilliant one-handed catch at extra cover by Chris Liddle off Mike Yardy.Liddle produced an even better effort in the second over when he ran around the long-on boundary to intercept a full-blooded drive from Jason Roy with a diving two-handed catch. But the second over by Amjad Khan cost 17 runs and the third, from left-arm spinner Michael Rippon, went for 18 as both Pietersen and Gary Wilson cleared the ropes.Liddle bowled Wilson as he played across the line in the fourth over but Surrey needed just eight runs off the final over – a target that was not going to tax a player of Pietersen’s calibre.Luke Wright and Chris Nash had earlier hammered 104 off nine overs before the rain arrived, as the Sussex batsmen continued the impressive form they have shown throughout the tournament so far. Wright made his second half-century to take his aggregate in this year’s competition to 308 runs, the third best in the country.It was a chastening experience for the Surrey bowlers and in particular Chris Tremlett, who is feeling his way back to fitness after injury. Duckworth-Lewis calculations seemed to favour Surrey but despite suffering their first South Group defeat Sussex had already booked a home tie in the quarter-finals and will now face Gloucestershire at Hove.

أعرب رفيق كابو لاعب ومهاجم فريق إنبي، عن سعادته بعد الفوز على الزمالك بهدفين دون رد، خلال المباراة التي جرت بينهما مساء اليوم الأحد ببطولة الدوري المصري.

الزمالك واجه إنبي، على أرضية ملعب استاد القاهرة الدولي، وكان رفيق كابو قد سجل هدف فريقه الأول في الدقيقة 21 من عمر الشوط الأول.

وقال رفيق في تصريحات تلفزيونية عبر فضائية “أون تايم سبورتس”: “كان يجب أن نفوز ونحصد الثلاثة نقاط، مواجهة كانت جيدة وإن شاء الله نستمر على ذلك”.

وأوضح: “قلت قبل اللقاء إنني أريد أن أحرز هدفًا لأعود لترتيب الهدافين”.

وبسؤاله هل حدث مفاوضات من أحد الأندية الكبيرة بمصر؟ أجاب: “لا توجد أي مفاوضات، ولكن طموحي في الفترة المقبلة أن ألعب لأندية كبيرة مثل الأهلي أو الزمالك”.

وعن الانضمام لمنتخب تونس قال: “أنا في تونس غير متواجد، لم يتواصل معي أي أحد من منتخب تونس ولا أعرف سبب عدم متابعتهم لي، أقول لهم أنا متواجد وأعمل على نفسي وتذكروني فقط”. 

واختتم: “أشكر تامر مصطفى لأنه قال لي قبل اللقاء إنني لا بد أن أقطع عند قلبي الدفاع لأن الزمالك سيترك مساحات خلفه”.

كشفت تقارير صحفية عن الحكم الذي وقع عليه الاختيار لإدارة مباراة الأهلي والهلال السوداني، في دوري أبطال إفريقيا.

ومن المقرر أن يلتقي الأهلي مع الهلال السوداني، في القاهرة يوم 31 مارس الجاري، ضمن منافسات الجولة السادسة والأخيرة من مرحلة المجموعات.

وأكدت صحيفة “كفرووتر” السودانية، أن الاتحاد الإفريقي اختار الحكم الإثيوبي باملاك تيسيمبا لإدارة مباراة الفريقين الحاسمة بدوري الأبطال.

الجدير بالذكر أن ماميلودي صن داونز الجنوب إفريقي، حسم التأهل كمتصدر للمجموعة، بينما يتصارع الأهلي والهلال على حسم البطاقة الثانية؛ وذلك في المباراة القادمة.
