Confira a nota oficial do Palmeiras:

England home in on whitewash

ESPNcricinfo previews the 4th ODI between Pakistan and England in Dubai

The Preview by Andrew McGlashan20-Feb-2012Match FactsFebruary 21, Dubai
Start time 1500 (1100 GMT)Alastair Cook has led England superbly with the bat and in the field•Getty Images

The Big PictureThis time it’s Pakistan who have only pride to play for. England are in search of a whitewash that will give some solace following the reversal in the Test series and, given how they have dominated in the one-dayers so far, they are strong favourites to complete the cleansweep.A 4-0 margin will move England up to fourth in the ICC rankings, nothing to write home amount in itself but a sign that progress is already being made in the 50-over format. The conditions they have faced in this series haven’t quite replicated the subcontinent at its toughest – that will come against India early next year – but neither is the next World Cup going to be held on dustbowls.England’s quick bowlers have been outstanding throughout the tour and now they are being led by Steven Finn. The fact Tim Bresnan hasn’t been able to walk back into the team – match readiness or not – shows how strong England’s options have become.Pakistan appear at a turning point with their one-day side. With an eye on the next World Cup they need to give the likes of Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq a chance to bed in even if it means short-term pain. They also need a better plan B when their spinners don’t dominate. Umar Gul’s form has been a major problem and they may need to look again at some new pace options.Form guide (Most recent first)
Pakistan LLLWW
England WWWLLWatch out for…There are signs, albeit small ones at the moment, that Eoin Morgan is emerging from the form slump that engulfed his performances in the Test series. A couple of unbeaten innings have enabled him to feel bat on ball and he was promoted to No. 3 in the previous game. Long term he is still a perfect finisher for England, and if Morgan can produce a significant score it will be another tick.Pakistan need more from Mohammad Hafeez. Since he made 88 in the opening Test against England he has had a number of starts without building a substantial innings. In the third ODI he had taken the attack to Stuart Broad only to fall two overs later for 29. He’s wasting form that Pakistan can ill-afford not to make the most if. His offspin has also lost some of its effectiveness as England’s batsmen take a more positive approach.Team newsIt’s anyone’s guess what Pakistan will do, especially as a number of players are suffering from flu. A dead ODI would appear the perfect chance to play Hammad Azam, the allrounder, while it also offers the chance to look at Junaid Khan, perhaps at the expense of the struggling Gul.Pakistan (possible) 1 Mohammad Hafeez, 2 Imran Farhat, 3 Azhar Ali, 4 Younis Khan, 5 Misbah-ul-Haq (capt), 6 Umar Akmal, 7 Adnan Akmal (wk), 8 Shahid Afridi, 9 Saeed Ajmal, 10 Junaid Khan, 11 Aizaz CheemaEngland’s only questions are rest and rotation. Jos Buttler and Tim Bresnan were both expected to figure in this series but injuries meant being sat on the sidelines. It’s now hard to find space in the team, although Bresnan for James Anderson remains a logical switch.England (possible) 1 Alastair Cook, 2 Kevin Pietersen, 3 Jonathan Trott, 4 Ravi Bopara, 5 Eoin Morgan, 6 Craig Kieswetter (wk), 7 Samit Patel, 8 Stuart Broad, 9 Graeme Swann, 10 James Anderson, 11 Steven FinnPitch and conditionsThe surface for Saturday’s game produced more pace and bounce than has been seen throughout the tour which certainly didn’t suit Pakistan’s game. Neither did batting first help them much. The same pitch is due to be used again which means there may be a little more assistance for the spinners.Stats and trivia The most wickets by an England bowler in a one-day series is 15 in six matches by Paul Jarvis against India, in 1992-93, and Steven Finn currently has 11 scalps in three games. Alastair Cook is currently fourth in the list of most runs scored in a one-day series for England England have completed 10 previous whitewashes in a series of at least three matches while Pakistan have been whitewashed six times.Quotes”We did not bowl properly, we did not bat properly and we did not field properly. We haven’t played to our potential.”
Mohsin Khan, Pakistan’s coach, is aware his side have some improving to do“Even though I spent some time in India before Christmas, it doesn’t replicate what you’re up against. But I’ve played a lot of subcontinent cricket and I should be used to it. I wasn’t, and my skill levels weren’t up to scratch.”

Warner happy to be passed over for captaincy

David Warner has admitted he is still a novice in ODI cricket and understands why he was passed over for the stand-in captaincy of the Australian team for Friday’s CB series match against Sri Lanka in Sydney

David Warner has admitted he is still a novice in ODI cricket and understands why he was passed over for the stand-in captaincy of the Australian team for Friday’s CB series match against Sri Lanka in Sydney. While Steve Waugh has expressed his surprise at former captain Ricky Ponting being preferred to lead the team in Michael Clarke’s enforced absence due to injury, Warner said he was happy to have been excused from the additional pressure of taking the captaincy after making a quiet start to the ODIs. He also acknowledged his own modest record in the format – 268 runs at 20.61 in 13 matches – as a valid reason not to thrust the top job upon him just yet.”It’s exactly what John [Inverarity] said, basically telling me what I already knew about being under Michael Clarke and getting some experience for future years and hopefully lead the country one day,” Warner said at the Sydney Children’s Hospital. “I’m thoroughly enjoying that role behind Michael there and obviously appointing Ricky as captain is due to his experience and an opportunity for me to be under him as well, he’s led the country for many years and I’m looking forward to being his vice [captain].”I’ve not had a great start to the one-day series and I’m looking to put numbers on the board. The selectors have noted they don’t want to put any extra pressure on myself, and I felt the same thing and agreed with what they had to say. I take that on board and I thoroughly respect the decision.”I’m still learning the one-day game as I’ve said to people about Test cricket. Test cricket was all about me trying to set a foundation for myself and a base for how to go about my game and I’ve established that at the moment. Now it’s back to one-day cricket, where I’ve got to focus on what works for me at the top of the order, how to approach my game, it’s not T20 cricket, I’ve got 50 overs and I’m still going about that how I am, I’m still talking to the experienced guys like Michael Hussey, Punter and Michael Clarke as well.”Communication has been raised as an issue for kicking around over the past few days, particularly relating to Brad Haddin’s uncertain public standing in relation to the national team. However the players appear comfortable with the messages being relayed to them from the selectors, as Warner, David Hussey and Shane Watson all stated when asked about their dealings with Inverarity’s panel.”I think the selectors in my case have always been thorough with me, they’ve said what I had to do to get back into the team,” Warner said. “That was two years ago with the one-day stuff as well, and looking to the future before I made my Test debut, they were always calling me, saying ‘you’re close, but some big runs on the board and you’re in line’. They have always been thorough with me and I’ve respected what they have done to date by me.”Hussey said he had perceived very little change between the panel as led by Andrew Hilditch and the current one helmed by Inverarity. “I haven’t noticed any changes at all,” Hussey said. “All I know is John’s called me to come back to the Australian ODI team and Twenty20 team so I am very happy with the communication thus far and hope it continues.”As for Watson, who expressed the view that Haddin had been left “in limbo”, the allrounder said his own dealings with the current selection panel had been clear and concise on his somewhat convoluted road back from injury.”I have [had communication], especially through the first couple of weeks and a month I had contact with the selectors,” he said. “But in the end the most important thing for me is to get fit because it doesn’t matter what you say when you’re not playing you need to be out there playing to be able to show what you can do.”

New Zealand can be beaten – Butcher

Zimbabwe have the courage and confidence to compete with and beat New Zealand in the one-off Test in Napier starting on January 26, according to the head coach Alan Butcher

Zimbabwe have the courage and confidence to compete with and beat New Zealand in the one-off Test in Napier starting on January 26, according to their head coach Alan Butcher. Since making their return to Test cricket in August last year, Butcher said the team had grown significantly from a mental perspective and are ready for their first challenge away from home in the new era.Zimbabwe endured the worst period in their cricketing history during six years of self-imposed exile from the longest form of the game. Defeats, disunity and disappointment abounded before they were able to make a commitment to rebuilding in 2010. Zimbabwe were ready for Test cricket again in August 2011 and beat Bangladesh in their comeback match in Harare. They played three series, all one-off Tests, in as many months and lost to Pakistan and New Zealand.Their defeat to New Zealand was by a margin of only 34 runs. Had they had managed to score those runs, they would have achieved a record Zimbabwean run chase. Although they didn’t, Butcher saluted the team’s efforts in just their third Test back. “People didn’t give us much of a chance so I was proud that we got that close,” he told ESPNcricinfo on the eve of Zimbabwe’s departure for New Zealand. “But I was also disappointed. We deserved to win it and to get that close and lose was disappointing.”The match highlighted one of Zimbabwe’s chief concerns on re-entering Test cricket: the inferiority complex that plagues so-called minnows, including Bangladesh. Throughout his tenure, Butcher has talked about developing Zimbabwe’s sense of self-belief and self-assuredness and as they embark on their first overseas tour as a readmitted Test nation, he says they have made progress. The results against New Zealand, which also included a record ODI chase by Zimbabwe, have helped.”I hope that the confidence we showed in those two matches will continue,” Butcher said. “In a lot of areas we showed that New Zealand can be beaten. What was really pleasing is that we did not have a bad day in the Test match, we played good cricket on all five days. And to win a one-dayer of that magnitude gave us a big boost. When we get into winning positions we have to be able to finish it off. The more times you get into a winning position, the more times you believe you can win.”One of the chief protagonists in getting Zimbabwe into situations where victory is a possibility is their captain Brendan Taylor. He scored back to back centuries in the ODIs against New Zealand and a hundred in the second innings of the Test. Taylor was offered a contract with Wellington to play in the HRV Cup as reward for his talents.Butcher said Taylor’s early experience of the New Zealand stint will help his leadership role and the team as a whole. “It’s been good to have him there, getting some inside information and insights on the conditions and a few of the players,” Butcher said. “And he has been fairly successful, which is a great feather in his cap.” Taylor was among the top 10 leading run-scorers in the Twenty20 tournament. The tour will also give some of Zimbabwe’s inexperienced Test players, particularly the bowlers, a taste of the big time. With senior seamer Chris Mpofu ruled out with a lower back injury, the third seamer’s spot is vacant. “[Kyle] Jarvis and [Brian] Vitori will be vital for us with the new ball but I would like to see one of Keegan Meth or Shingarai Masakadza do well in the third seamer’s spot,” Butcher said. “And both of them can hold a bat as well.”Graeme Cremer will also be interesting to watch. He may not get to play this time but it will be nice to see how an attacking spinner progresses.” Cremer has not been part of Zimbabwe’s comeback after a long recovery from a knee injury and may have to sit out for the experienced Ray Price if Zimbabwe opt for a safety-first approach. He is not in the ODI squad and will return to Zimbabwe, to be replaced by Prosper Utseya. From a batting perspective, Butcher said he would like to see “a couple of the fringe players” step up. “Guys like Forster Mutizwa and Regis Chakabva have good records in domestic cricket and it will be nice to see them do well. Then we will be well stocked.”Butcher said he would have loved to have had opening batsman Vusi Sibanda as part of the touring party but respected the decision of the cricket committee to exclude him. Sibanda was declared ineligible for national selection after choosing to play grade cricket in Australia and declining a Zimbabwe Cricket contract at the start of the season. He has since returned to Zimbabwe and is currently on a pay-as-you-play arrangement with the Mid-West Rhinos, which could turn into a full-time contract that will qualify him for national selection again.
