Spurs: Paratici submits Spence bid

Tottenham Hotspur have made their first move in an attempt to bring Djed Spence to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a claim made Florian Plettenberg, with the Sky Sports Deutschland journalist revealing in a recent post on Twitter that all three of Tottenham, Manchester City and Arsenal have submitted offers for the Middlesbrough right-back, who is currently on loan at promotion hopefuls Nottingham Forest.

Plettenberg went on to state that the England U21 international is still being tracked by Bayern Munich, while it is also claimed that Boro will demand a figure of between €12m-€15m (£10m-£12.5m) in order to part with the defender this summer.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-levy-conte-paratici-thfc” title= “Read the latest Spurs news!”]

In his post, the journalist said: “Update Spence: Selling price is €12-15m! It is said that he has got ‘five offers’. City, Arsenal & Tottenham are among the interested clubs. [Djed’s] dream is to play for MUFC one day. He is a fan! Been told there should be still loose contact with FC Bayern.”

He’s a steal

Considering just how exciting a talent Spence quite clearly is, should Fabio Paratici be able to get a deal over the line for as little as £12.5m this summer, Tottenham’s signing of the right-back would certainly appear to be something of a steal.

Indeed, over his 36 Championship appearances for Forest this season, the £2.25m-rated full-back has been a constant threat on the right flank, scoring two goals, registering four assists and creating five big chances for his teammates, as well as making an average of one key pass, completing two dribbles and taking 0.6 shots per game.

The £4.4k-per-week defender has also impressed in metrics more typical of his position, making an average of 1.3 tackles, 1.6 interceptions, 1.3 clearances and winning 5.9 duels per fixture.

These metrics have seen the 21-year-old average a highly impressive WhoScored match rating of 7.10, ranking him as Steve Cooper’s fourth-best performer in the second tier of English football.

Furthermore, Leicester City’s former Premier League-winning captain Wes Morgan also appeared incredibly impressed with Spence following Forest’s 4-1 win over the Foxes in the fourth round of the FA Cup, stating of the youngster:

“Spence was outstanding all afternoon, he seemed full of confidence. He probably got what he deserved today with the goal. He’s a constant threat and kept his cool right until the end.”

As such, considering his sheer amount of potential, not to mention his seamless fit into Antonio Conte’s right wing-back role, should Paratici indeed be able to land the player who Ian Wright dubbed “unbelievable” for around £12.5m this summer, it would certainly be yet another masterclass by the Italian sporting director.

'It's the win that we needed' – Waqar

Pakistan’s coach, Waqar Younis, admitted that their series-salvaging victory in the third ODI against England was the result that his team needed

Pakistan’s coach, Waqar Younis, admitted that their series-salvaging victory in the third ODI against England was the result that his team needed as they enter the final week of a long, fraught and controversial tour. Having been faced with the prospect of a 3-0 scoreline and two dead-rubber matches at Lord’s and the Rose Bowl, an uplifted squad has been imbued with renewed optimism.”After the two losses, we really needed something like this,” said Waqar. “The series is still alive, and this gives us the incentive that we can come back and maybe win the series now. It’s been a really tough tour on the field and off it, so we’re pretty pleased to be back in this one-day series, but there’s still plenty of work to be done.”Pakistan’s victory came on the day that Scotland Yard’s investigators passed a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service, as the spot-fixing controversy prepared to move forward to its next phase after several destabilising weeks in which the team has been deprived of the services, through suspension, of three of its key players, including both new-ball bowlers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif.Waqar denied any knowledge of this latest turn of events, and insisted that the squad had been fully focussed on its cricket, and that seemed self-evident from the performance of Umar Gul, the most influential seamer still within the Pakistan camp. He produced a performance of irresistible full-length reverse-swing to rout England’s lower-order and deliver victory with his career-best figures of 6 for 42.”The way Umar bowled was outstanding,” said Waqar. “[After making 241], there was no way for us to bowl 50 overs and win this game. Our only chance was to bowl the English team out – and we’ve done that. Shoaib Akhtar was important too, because we really needed early wickets, but this wasn’t a fluke. The boys really played well in a team effort, and the entire thing was what we needed.”Gul’s performance was his finest in England since the World Twenty20 in 2009, when he once again starred on this ground with the remarkable figures of 5 for 6 against New Zealand. On that occasion, Daniel Vettori cast aspersions on the legitimacy of his performance, a suggestion that had caused Waqar to react with fury. There was no need for such a strident defence of his efforts on this occasion, as England knew they had been beaten fair and square.”One big reason for his reverse swing is that he’s got an action that really helps,” said Waqar. “He also does a lot of practice, which really makes him a good reverse-swing bowler, especially at the death with his yorkers because you have to know how to manage them.”One concern for Pakistan as they look ahead to Lord’s on Monday was the fitness of their wicketkeeper, Kamran Akmal, who took a blow on the ring finger while spilling a low edge off Michael Yardy, and had to be replaced by his brother Umar for the latter stages of the innings. Waqar could not confirm whether he’d suffered a fracture as yet, but remained optimistic at this stage. “He’ll go for an x-ray tonight, and we hope he’ll be all right,” he said.

Liverpool must unleash Tsimikas vs MCFC

Liverpool are back in action tomorrow with an FA Cup semi-final showdown against Manchester City at Wembley Stadium.

The Reds played the Manchester club in the Premier League last weekend before securing their place in the semi-finals of the Champions League in midweek thanks to a 3-3 draw against Benfica.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-liverpool-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-salah-gnabry-isak-romano” title= “Read the latest Liverpool news!”]

Having come from behind on two occasions to secure a 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, Jurgen Klopp’s side will be aiming to beat City and cement their place in the final this time around.

On the chalkboard

One player that didn’t feature against City last weekend that we feel should be in the team this time around is Kostas Tsimikas.

Having played through the entire 90 minutes in midweek, the left-back delivered a performance that will have given Klopp a big quandary over who he should pick for that position on Saturday.

As well as providing two assists, the Greek international racked up four key passes in total with four crosses, three long balls and completed two dribbles.

This shows just how capable and dangerous he can be on the ball for his side.

From a defensive point of view, the 25-year-old made two tackles, won 10 duels and didn’t get dribbled past on even one occasion.

This display ultimately earned Tsimikas an overall match rating of 8.2/10, making him the second-highest rated Liverpool player on the day according to SofaScore.

The Liverpool Echo said that the full-back was “enthusiastic and decisive both in defending and going forward.”

The £9m-rated defender’s performance also caught the attention of Liverpool journalist Leanne Prescott who described him as “energetic, relentless and makes the difference going forward.”

Taking all of this into account, Tsimikas certainly has what it takes to cause City some problems on the pitch with his ability on and off the ball.

Also, with Andy Robertson failing to make even one tackle or interception in the 2-2 game against Pep Guardiola’s side last weekend as well as winning just one of the six duels he was involved in, this could sway Klopp into giving the Greek full-back a chance to shine once again.

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s clash, the Liverpool boss could have a big decision to make over who he picks to start in the left-back position.

Sunderland’s fatal Ibrahimovic error

Sunderland have seen plenty of players come and go from the Wearside club over the years during several transfer windows.

However, as has happened with many clubs, they don’t always end up securing every player that they get linked with.

One prime example of a player that the Black Cats were looking to sign and will now be having nightmares over is Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

According to the Sunderland Echo, the striker “was a target of Peter Reid during his formulative years at Ajax.”

However, a deal for the Sweden international “couldn’t be sealed” before he eventually joined Juventus in August 2004.

Throughout an impressive and very long career, Ibrahimovic has played for clubs such as Malmo, Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Barcelona and LA Galaxy.

With a total of 811 club appearances under his belt, the 40-year-old has scored 492 goals, provided 201 assists and won numerous team titles and individual awards, highlighting just how much of an icon he is.

On the international stage, Ibrahimovic has been a vital figure for his country by scoring 62 goals in 121 appearances.

This season has seen the veteran score eight goals and provide two assists in 19 Serie A appearances for Milan, showing that despite his advanced age, he still has the knack for finding the back of the net in one of Europe’s top divisions.

Labelled as an “unstoppable” player by Gianfranco Zola, as well as having the “technique of Lionel Messi, the character of Muhammad Ali, and the strength of Mike Tyson,” by Mino Raiola, Ibrahimovic could have been an incredible asset for Sunderland had they been able to strike a deal for him all those years ago.

With the benefit of hindsight, securing a deal for the centre-forward should have been a top priority for the Wearside club, no matter what the cost implications would have been.

While there would have been no guarantee over how long he would have been at Sunderland had they been able to sign him, it still would have been a great sight for the fans to see such an exciting and talented goalscorer in their squad.
