The participation of Pakistan players in next year’s IPL will come up for discussion during the next IPL governing council meeting on October 14, Rajiv Shukla, the league’s chairman, has said. Pakistan players have not taken part in the IPL following the terrorist attacks in Mumbai in November 2008, and even though 11 of them featured in the auction list for the third edition of the tournament in 2010, none were picked up by the franchises. Some of the franchises put it down to the uncertainty over their availability following a breakdown in diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan.”This decision has to be taken by the Governing Council. It is not that Pakistan as a country has been banned in IPL,” Shukla told . “Their (Pakistani) referees’ services have been utilised. Some franchises have taken Pakistani former players as coaches also and supporting staff as well. So it is not that Pakistan as a whole has been banned or something. There is no question of banning anyone.”The final call, however, rested with the franchises, Shukla said. “About Pakistani players, it is purely up to the franchises to decide whether they want to take Pakistani players or not. And we have to keep certain considerations in mind before deciding about it.”With regards to the resumption of cricketing ties with Pakistan, Shukla said matters of security and scheduling needed to be resolved before going ahead. He was also not too keen on the idea of playing at a neutral venue. “We have worked together. The question is about the circumstances and certain issues … in terms of security. Those issues are to be sorted out. Then only, we can think of it.”At the same time, there is no slot available. If there is slot available, then all these things can be discussed. Everybody wants cricket ties to be revived, to be resumed but slot has to be there to resume the ties.”Secondly the atmosphere should be congenial because I am of the view that we should play on each others’ soil instead of playing at a third venue. There is no point on playing at a third venue.”The termination of the Kochi franchise and the number of teams for the next IPL will also be discussed at the meeting.

A equipe merecia – disse o lateral-esquerdo.

Guarani visita o ameaçado Juventude no Alfredo Jaconi

Juventude: Matheus; Felipe Mattioni, César Martins, Bonfim e Pará; Matheus Bertotto, Jair, Diones e Felipe Matheus; Caio Rangel e Elias. Técnico: Julinho Camargo.

Guarani: Bruno Brigido; Lenon, Everton Alemão, Edson Silva e Pará; Baraka e Ricardinho; Guilherme, Rondinelly e Rafael Longuine; Anselmo Ramon.

Fim do mistério.

Malik, Kaneria meet PCB integrity committee again

Shoaib Malik’s and Danish Kaneria’s long drawn-out battle to gain clearance from the PCB continued on Monday when they appeared before its integrity committee again

Shoaib Malik says he has given the integrity committee all it asked for•AFP

Shoaib Malik’s and Danish Kaneria’s long drawn-out battle to gain clearance from the PCB continued on Monday when they appeared before its integrity committee again. A spokesman for the PCB said the decision on whether the two players – who last played for Pakistan during the England tour last year – can play for the national team is still pending.”Both Malik and Kaneria appeared before the committee but the committee has taken no decision,” Nadeem Sawrar, a PCB spokesman, told .Malik, Kaneria and Kamran Akmal appeared before the integrity committee in January before the selection of Pakistan’s World Cup squad, and while Kamran was included Kaneria and Malik were not cleared for selection.Kaneria was questioned by police in England last year, in relation to an investigation believed to centre around a Pro40 Essex win against Durham and spot-betting on wides and no-balls during the match, but was not charged. He has since produced a letter from his former county Essex clearing him of wrongdoing, but the PCB was not satisfied with it, and Kaneria has taken the PCB to court over his non-clearance.Malik, meanwhile, received a boost when he was named as a reserve player in Pakistan’s squad for their upcoming tour of Zimbabwe, but Mohsin Khan, the chief selector, said it was subject to his clearance from the board. Malik has reportedly not been able to satisfy the integrity committee about the legitimacy of a sum of money in his bank account. He, however, said he has given the committee all the information needed.”I have given to the committee whatever I was asked to submit and it’s up to them to clear me,” Malik said. “If I am included in the team, then I am sure I will give a good performance as I believe I have a lot to offer to Pakistan cricket.”

'Private' SL tournament is fine for Champions League

The winner of the SLPL is supposed to compete in the 2011 Champions League T20 tournament

The BCCI’s refusal to release Indian players for the Sri Lanka Premier League on grounds that the tournament is organised by a “private party” has been put into sharp focus with the winner of the SLPL being included in the 2011 Champions League Twenty20 tournament – an event that is jointly owned by the boards of India, Australia and South Africa.A press release issued by the CLT20 on Monday said a six-team qualifying tournament this year would feature a team from Sri Lanka and teams from India, West Indies, New Zealand and England. Sri Lanka Cricket’s secretary Nishantha Ranatunga confirmed to ESPNcricinfo that as far as SLC is concerned, it is the winner of the SLPL that will play in the CLT20. Sundar Raman, a member of the techincal committee of the CLT20, did not respond to an email from ESPNcricinfo seeking comment. The SLPL is also the only T20 domestic tournament in Sri Lanka, having replaced the previous tournament, so if a Sri Lanka team is to participate in the CLT20 at all, it must come from the SLPL.The BCCI had initially stated it had no problems with the proposed league and that Indian players were free to take part, as long as there was no conflict with India’s international or domestic schedule. However, on Saturday came the board’s announcement denying permission to the 12 Indian cricketers who’d sought No-Objection Certificates to participate in the SLPL on the grounds that it is Somerset who would be handling the contracts for international players, and that could lead to complications for the players should disputes arise.SLC responded by rejecting the BCCI’s claim that the SLPL is a private-party organised tournament, saying that the SLPL is owned and approved by SLC – and so, automatically, by the ICC – and that Singapore-based Somerset Ventures only owns the commercial rights to the tournament.

Sri Lanka's interim committee dissolved

Sri Lanka’s sports ministry has dissolved Sri Lanka Cricket’s interim committee amid allegations of corruption and mismanagement of funds

Sri Lanka’s sports ministry has dissolved Sri Lanka Cricket’s (SLC) interim committee and appointed a panel, headed by former SLC chairman Upali Dharmadasa, for the next six months. The other members of the new interim committee are Prakash Shaffter, Nimal Perera and Sidath Wettimuny, the former Sri Lanka opener. Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Sri Lanka’s sports minister, said the outgoing committee, headed by Somachandra de Silva, had wanted to resign after the 2011 World Cup.”The previous interim committee stayed on for more time after the previous World Cup because of my request,” he said. “There were shortcomings as well as successes in that committee.” There had been allegations of corruption and mismanagement of funds against the outgoing committee. The dissolution comes a day after the ICC, at its annual conference in Hong Kong, gave all cricket boards a one-year deadline to free themselves from any government or political interference. Aluthgamage said he wanted to restore democracy to Sri Lanka Cricket by holding elections in early 2010. He said the new panel would act as a stepping stone towards appointing the right person to head SLC.”I don’t have any personal agenda. Let me appoint a correct person democratically to head the cricket board next year. I appointed the present committee only for six months, so as to take time till we can pave the way for someone who is respectable, does not depend on the sport and really loves the sport to take over cricket administration.”Aluthgamage said the financial crisis in Sri Lanka cricket was one of the first things the new panel had to attend to. “One of the main tasks is to keep an eye on the finances. We are in a financial crisis after the World Cup. We spent more than we budgeted for.”He said the SLC’s cash problem would ease with a government grant and a government loan in the offing.SLC has undergone tough times in recent months, incurring a debt of $23 million over the construction of stadiums in Hambantota and Pallekele for the 2011 World Cup. In addition to that, there have been allegations of corruption and pressure to hold elections following a petition filed by Asoka Mendis – the president of the United Southern Cricket Club – against the appointment of an interim committee by the sports minister without the prior approval of the member clubs, which he claimed bypassed the electoral procedure. On Wednesday the ICC launched an investigation into “black marketeering” of World Cup tickets, after its executive board received a confidential report criticising the handling of ticket sales in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka’s old guard combined to ease to a 112-run victory over New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium. Kumar Sangakkara made his first ODI century since June 2008, supported by a controversial 66 from Mahela Jayawardene, to haul Sri Lanka up to 265 before Muttiah Muralitharan spun New Zealand to defeat with 4 for 25.Coming into the tournament as one of the favourites, Sri Lanka have not quite convinced so far and but for their three most experienced players might have struggled again. Instead the finish was the kind of one-sided result that has epitomised Group A.New Zealand, though, will rue their misfortune when Jayawardene was reprieved at a critical moment. Sri Lanka had lost both openers and were struggling to get on top of the New Zealand slow bowlers when, in the 24th over, Jayawardene chipped a return catch to Nathan McCullum. It went low to McCullum’s right and the bowler dived full-length to scoop the ball centimetres off the turf. The batsman stood his ground and the decision was sent upstairs. Side-on replays seemed to clearly show McCullum’s fingers under the ball but a front-on shot, as it so often does, created doubt that the third umpire, Amiesh Saheba, ruled on. Before then Jayawardene had scrambled for 50 deliveries to make 26 but silkily added a further 40 at a run a ball and Sri Lanka never looked back.Sangakkara helped himself to a century that he’s been waiting 64 matches for. Looking typically unhurried, he was content to work the ball around early on before unfurling some of the stylish strokes that are his hallmark as the innings went on. One six, eased down the ground off Scott Styris, told of a batsman in totalSmart stats

The 145-run partnership between Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene is the second-highest for Sri Lanka against New Zealand in a World Cup match.

Sangakkara and Jayawardene have put together 4724 partnership runs in ODIs, which is the highest by a non-opening pair. This was also their tenth century partnership in ODIs, which puts them in second place, next only to the Sachin Tendulkar-Rahul Dravid pair, who have 11.

In World Cups, this was their third century partnership in ten innings, but the first against a Test-playing team. Only three other non-opening pairs have got three hundred stands in World Cups.

The 112-run margin of victory is Sri Lanka’s third-highest against New Zealand.

Muttiah Muralitharan’s bowling returns of 4 for 25 is his second-best in World Cups, next only to his 4 for 19 against Ireland in 2007.

New Zealand’s total of 153 is their fourth-lowest in a World Cup match, and their poorest against Sri Lanka.

control. The verbal exchanges that Jayawardene got involved with after his escape only served to fire him up and he was soon exhibiting the fluent form that had deserted him since his century against Canada in Sri Lanka’s opening game. The pair added 145 and the importance of the stand was demonstrated by what followed. Sangakkara rushed to his century with four boundaries in six deliveries but was out soon after for 111. Following his dismissal Sri Lanka lost five wickets for 55 in the final 8.2 overs. That they even got so many was almost entirely down to Angelo Mathews, who swatted 41 from 35 balls to thwart New Zealand’s fightback. In the end, the collapse was irrelevant but in the knockout stages, opposition teams will know beneath Sri Lanka’s top order is a soft underbelly waiting to be exposed. New Zealand would have backed themselves to make a better fist of chasing but – despite dew, on a ground that will host the World Cup final, hampering the Sri Lanka spinners – Muralitharan and Mendis choked them into submission. The early work was done by the quicks when Brendon McCullum was given out by the TV umpire after Jayawardene, of all people, claimed a low catch off Mathews. There was some uncertainty as the take was almost spilled at the last moment. TV replays were not entirely certain but, unlike the first time, the right decision was made and McCullum was sent on his was for 14. After Guptill fell for 13, Jesse Ryder and Ross Taylor threatened to make a match of it but the spinners took over.Mendis’ mystery may have faded with exposure but his variations proved too much for Ryder who nibbed a carrom-ball behind for a 23-ball 19. Muralitharan’s introduction had been delayed after he picked up an injury while batting. Despite hobbling around, he was still devastating when he finally got into the attack in the 18th over.A doosra took care of Kane Williamson for 5 before he landed the killer blow by spinning one back into Taylor’s pads. Despite a big stride and a review, Taylor was rightly given out for 33 and his team never looked like competing. Scott Styris chipped a return catch to Muralitharan, who belied his injury to spring up and snaffle the chance, and Nathan McCullum and James Franklin soon followed. Between them Mendis and Muralitharan took six wickets for 49 in 14 overs.Unlike the frenzied excitement in Group B, the qualifiers in Group A are already settled. Sri Lanka are guaranteed to finish second whatever happens between Australia and Pakistan, which might well leave them in line for a contest against the World Cup mysterybox, England, in the quarter finals.Match Timeline
