Não deu para o São Paulo na decisão da Copinha. O time jogou bem contra o Flamengo, mas não conseguiu passar pelo forte sistema defensivo dos rubro-negros e ficou com o vice-campeonato. Apesar do objetivo não ter sido alcançado pelos garotos de Cotia, o sentimento é de orgulho pela campanha.

– Temos motivos de sobra para estar orgulhosos pela maneira que o time se comportou, com um futebol ofensivo como o torcedor gosta de ver o São Paulo. Criamos muito e buscamos o título do primeiro ao último minuto. Vimos uma equipe com muita honra e coragem, jogando sempre um bom futebol. Em nenhum momento no torneio tivemos casos de indisciplina e atuamos sempre com intensidade, disse o técnico André Jardine logo após o fim da partida.

O São Paulo chegou à decisão do torneio invicto. Havia empatado com o Vitória (nas quartas) e Internacional (nas semis). Em ambas, no entanto, saiu vitorioso nas cobranças de pênalti. Contra o Flamengo, a sore não estava ao lado dos tricolores. O time teve mais posse de bola, finalizou mais vezes e, mesmo apoiado pela torcida, viu a equipe carioca sair vitoriosa.

Ao fim da partida, após receberem as medalhas, os jogadores de Cotia fizeram um corredor para parabenizar os campeões da Copinha. A atitude chamou a atenção de torcedores de todos os clubes e foi muito elogiada nas redes sociais. Para quem vive com os meninos e passa todos os dias trabalhando com eles, a atitude de reconhecer a superioridade do adversário é mais um motivo de orgulho.

– A postura, a honra e a maneira como estes garotos defendem o São Paulo nos deixa orgulhosos. São jogadores corajosos e que defendem uma ideia de jogo ofensiva. Não vencemos a Copinha, mas, com certeza, revelaremos grandes atletas para o futuro. O trabalho na base é bem feito, com um setor de captação e excelência desde as categorias menores. E tem dado frutos ao clube. Vamos tentar manter este nível de trabalho para desenvolver novos talentos para o São Paulo, pontuou.

Nos próximos dias, o treinador do time sub-20 terá uma reunião com a comissão técnica do time profissional para definir quais jogadores serão promovidos ao time de cima. A próxima competição que o São Paulo tem pela frente é a Copa Libertadores da categoria, que será disputada entre os dias 10 e 24 de fevereiro, no Uruguai. O Tricolor é o único clube brasileiro que possui este título e busca o bicampeonato.

– Aos pouquinhos, vamos pensar na Libertadores. Quando o juiz apitar nossa estreia lá, eles verão o tamanho da competição e tudo que pode representar uma conquista lá, que consigamos, mais uma vez, trazer esse título para o São Paulo, concluiu Jardine.

With none of the batting youngsters having made compelling cases in the Asia Cup and the Zimbabwe series, it will be interesting to see what the pecking order is when the squad is chosen for that triangular.Another facet that Dhoni wanted the team to improve in was fielding, which had played a key role in Sri Lanka’s win in Tuesday’s league game. Kumar Sangakkara’s team was flat in the field during the finals, with several dropped chances and plenty of fumbles in the outfield.Kris Srikkanth, the Indian chairman of selectors, had said the players’ fitness and fielding levels had been looked into while picking the squad for the tournament, and the team has also shown a renewed focus on fielding during their practice sessions. “We need to improve our fielding, but one good thing, we had a few youngsters who did really well, so we don’t really have to hide too many in this side,” Dhoni said. “All our fielders are not brilliant but it was good in this series, if we gradually improve our fielding till the World Cup, we will be a safe fielding side, and fielding really contributes in one-dayers.”

Daily Record reporter Andy Newport has revealed that the Gers have had an offer turned down for the centre-back on deadline day.

Devastated

Rangers fans will be devastated by this news for several reasons.

Firstly, it has come far too late into the window. They will be frustrated by the club’s lack of speed in trying to secure a deal for him this month, having secured the pre-contract agreement on January 14. Ross Wilson has had just over half of the month to snap him up before the summer and has now waited until deadline day to make an offer which still is not good enough to be accepted.

Therefore, the supporters will be devastated with the club’s weak attempts to sign him to bolster Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad immediately. If Wilson was serious about landing him in January, then the offers should have been made as soon as a pre-contract was in the bag, rather than in the final days of the window, leaving Hearts with no time to replace him.

The fans will also be devastated as it means that they will not be able to watch him boss the defence in Glasgow for the Light Blues before next season. He is a top-quality Premiership player and could have improved the club’s backline in the weeks and months had he joined on a permanent deal this month.

Souttar has averaged a brilliant SofaScore rating of 7.40 so far this season, showing off his ability and consistency at this level as he has been able to turn in superb performances week-in-week-out in the Scottish top-flight. This is why the Ibrox faithful will be far from pleased that they will need to wait until later in the year to see him play.

Atual campeão, o Corinthians sofreu para avançar para a terceira fase da Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior. Nesta sexta-feira, o Timão venceu o Sport nos pênaltis por 4 a 1 após empate por 1 a 1 no tempo regulamentar.

O próximo adversário do Corinthians será a Ferroviária, que venceu o São Carlos por 3 a 2 também nesta sexta-feira. As duas equipes se enfrentaram na fase de grupos e empataram por 1 a 1.

O Corinthians iniciou o primeiro tempo pressionando o Sport. E chegou ao gol logo aos 13 minutos, em linda cobrança de Fabrício Oya, o principal nome da equipe e cotado para subir ao elenco profissional.

Mesmo após o gol, o Timão continuou em cima do Sport. Rafael Bilu, Vitinho e Samuel tiveram chances de ampliar o placar. O Leão, por sua vez, só foi levar perigo aos 39 minutos, em cobrança de falta de Pedro Vitor.

O segundo tempo começou como o primeiro, com o Corinthians pressionando. Em cinco minutos, William teve boa chance e viu Everton fazer a defesa, e Oya quase marcou um gol olímpico. Aos oito, Oya ainda cobrou falta no travessão.

A partir dos dez minutos, o Sport passou a tomar conta do jogo. Araçoiaba assustou e Robinho carimbou o travessão. O empate parecia questão de tempo, e veio aos 33 minutos. Após pênalti marcado porque a bola bateu no braço de João, zagueiro do Corinthians, João Erick cobrou no canto esquerdo do goleiro Diego e deixou tudo igual.

Nos minutos finais, o Sport tinha mais atitude, mas foi o Corinthians que levou maior perigo, em chute de longe de Oya. Antes, Renan Areias já havia tido uma boa chance dentro da área.

Nos pênaltis, Oya, Ramonzinho, Samuel e Guilherme marcaram para o Corinthians. Pelo Sport, Pedro converteu, mas João Erick (que havia marcado no tempo regulamentar) parou no goleiro Diego e Chico chutou para fora. Com isso, o Timão se classificou para a próxima fase da Copinha.

O zagueiro Iago Maidana, destaque do Paraná na conquista do acesso para a Série A do Brasileirão, está perto de retornar ao São Paulo. O jogador é pretendido pela própria equipe paranaense, pelo Bahia e também recebeu uma sondagem recente do Sport. Com a indefinição de seu futuro, o destino do garoto, de apenas 21 anos, pode ser no clube do Morumbi.

O jogador tem contrato com o Tricolor paulista até o dia 11 de setembro do ano que vem e está emprestado ao Paraná até o dia 31 de dezembro deste ano. Como as reuniões entre os representantes do defensor com os dirigentes do clube paulista não foram definitivas, as chances do zagueiro permanecer em Curitiba são baixas.

Durante as negociações pela contratação do goleiro Jean, o Bahia demonstrou interesse no futebol do jovem defensor, de apenas 21 anos. O São Paulo, no entanto, reconhece o potencial de Maidana e não está disposto a liberá-lo com tanta facilidade, visto que o atleta foi um dos destaques do Paraná na Série B desta temporadada.

Soma-se a isto, a posição da comissão técnica do Tricolor. O zagueiro é visto como um bom reforço para o elenco na próxima temporada. Com a saída de Lugano, o setor fica com uma posição vaga e o atleta pode ocupar o espaço deixado pelo ídolo uruguaio.

Mesmo assim, algo pesa contra a permanência de Maidana no São Paulo. O jogador foi o pivô do caso que culminou na renúncia do ex-presidente Carlos Miguel Aidar no segundo semestre de 2015 e parte dos dirigentes tricolores veem o retorno do zagueiro como um pretexto para críticas.

Na época, Maidana havia sido vice-campeão mundial com a seleção brasileira sub-20 e se destacava no Criciúma. Ele foi comprado por R$ 800 mil por uma empresa chamada Itaquerão Soccer. Dias depois, foi inscrito no Monte Cristo, clube da Terceira Divisão de Goiás, e vendido ao São Paulo na sequência por R$ 2 milhões, referentes a 60% de seus direitos. O caso chamou a atenção da Fifa e acabou resultando em uma grave crise política no Tricolor.

Restando apenas uma semana para a reapresentação do elenco no CT da Barra Funda, a diretoria do São Paulo precisa ser rápida e tomar uma decisão. Afinal, caso não assine contrato com qualquer outra equipe do futebol nacional ou internacional, Iago Maidana precisa retornar ao Morumbi.

Crystal Palace could be boosted by the return of forward Jordan Ayew for Sunday’s clash with Liverpool after Ghana’s shock exit from the African Cup of Nations.

After travelling to Cameroon to compete in the African Cup on Nations with his native Ghana, which saw him miss Crystal Palace’s derby draw with Brighton last week, Jordan Ayew could be back in contention for the Eagles.

The Black Stars suffered a shock exit from AFCON, their first dismissal at the group stage since 2006, which therefore has seen Ayew return to south London.

Palace manager Patrick Vieira confirmed that the 30-year-old has returned to training ahead of the Reds’ trip to Selhurst Park and could be available for selection.

On Ayew, the Frenchman said: “We don’t know, we still have a couple of days before the game. He was in today [Friday] and took part in the first part of training. We will have a discussion tomorrow [Saturday] to find out how he’s feeling.”

Vieira will be delighted

Although he may not be fit to start, Vieira will be delighted to have one of his regular starters back available, especially after less time away than initially thought.

Before his departure for AFCON, Ayew had featured in all bar one of the Eagles’ Premier League matches this season. Although he has only scored once and assisted twice, the 30-year-old is a favourite of his manager for his work-rate and defensive contribution.

Last month, Vieira heaped the Ghanaian with praise, stating: “I think when he had his opportunity the focus was on what he’s doing for the team. He’s sacrificing himself for the team, working hard for the team. This is what we need and want. Goals will come.”

Moreover, the more players available the better for the south London side, who face the tall task of taking a result against a Liverpool side who have lost just one of their last ten Premier League matches and sit second in the table.
