West Bromwich Albion have failed in their bid to bring Famara Diedhiou to The Hawthorns this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Teesside Live, who revealed that the former Bristol City centre-forward has secured a move to Turkish side Alanyaspor despite being receiving plenty of interest from a number of Championship clubs – including Valerien Ismael’s West Brom.

The report added that the 28-year-old priced himself out of a move to a second-tier side this summer, having already rejected the offer of a deal from Bristol City which the club’s chief executive Mark Ashton dubbed as “one of the biggest contract offers this club has ever made to a player.”

Opportunity missed

With Mbaye Diagne having returned to Galatasaray following his loan spell at West Brom last season, and a deal for the 29-year-old appearing unlikely after the striker admitted that he does not want to move to a Championship club, up front certainly seems an area where Ismael will be looking to strengthen ahead of next season.

With Diedhiou having consistently impressed for Bristol City since arriving at the club from Angers back in 2017, the Senegal international would have certainly appeared to be a fantastic signing for the Frenchman to get over the line this summer.

Indeed, the £2.25m-rated forward scored 14 goals and provided three assists in his first season at Ashton Gate, bagged 13 goals and four assists in 2018/19, registered 14 goals and one assist in 2019/20 and scored 10 goals and provided one assist last season.

As can be seen, despite playing his football for a typically mid-table Championship side, the £20k-per-week hitman consistently returned an excellent amount of goal involvements for the Robins – something which, should a move to West Brom have materialised, would have likely only increased with the number of Premier League-standard players in the Albion squad.

However, now that his move to Turkey has been confirmed, Ismael will be forced to turn his attention in the transfer market elsewhere, with the man who Lee Johnson dubbed an “excellent” player appearing to be a big opportunity missed for the Frenchman and the Baggies.

Graham Roberts has been told that Tottenham have agreed terms with Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, meaning Nuno Espirito Santo is close to making his first signing as manager.

Tomiyasu, who’s made 60 Serie A appearances for Bologna since making the switch from Belgian, will bolster a Spurs defensive department that conceded 45 times in the Premier League last season.

The 22-year-old has already been capped 22 times by Japan and has been named in their squad for the upcoming Olympics.

However, depending on Japan’s progression, should Tomiyasu complete his imminent move to Tottenham, he could miss the opening few weeks of the Premier League campaign – with the Olympic final taking place just eight days before Santo’s side open their season against Man City.

Tomiyasu played at both right-back and centre-back in Serie A last term, and even the occasional appearance at left-back, which means he’ll bring a great deal of versatility to north London.

Roberts exclusively told Football FanCast just how close the deal is to being confirmed:

“I’ve been told through the grapevine that he’s agreed terms with Tottenham, and it’s just the fee now, but that could take up to the end of August the way we deal with things. But that could be one of the centre-halves in.”

Aston Villa look set to sign West Brom youngster Tim Iroegbunam, after he rejected a lucrative deal to stay at The Hawthorns, according to Express and Star reporter Joseph Masi.

And, as to be expected, a number of Villa fans were quick to give their thoughts to the news on social media.

According to Masi, Iroegbunam is heading to Villa after snubbing a contract proposal with the Baggies.

The 18-year-old is primarily a central midfielder but can also play in a defensive midfield role when required. Described as a ‘tough tackler’ who has ‘started to add goals to his game’, Iroegbunam has been on the books at West Brom since Under-8 level.

He now looks set to move across the Midlands to Villa Park, though, and a number of Villa supporters have been sharing their thoughts on the proposed move.
