Liverpool fans excited by Jurgen Klopp hint

A number of Liverpool supporters believe Jurgen Klopp has hinted at staying at Anfield beyond 2024, following an interview regarding his future.

The German has done an incredible job in charge of the Reds, overseeing one of the greatest periods in the club’s history.

Having arrived in October 2015, the 54-year-old has guided Liverpool to both Premier League and Champions League glory, playing some breathtaking football along the way.

Klopp is undoubtedly one of the best managers in world football, so the hope is that he remains at Anfield for as long as possible.

His current contract expires at the end of the 2023/24 season, and while he could choose to leave at that point, he has hinted in an interview with RTL [via Anfield Edition on Twitter] that he will take a break “whenever it will be”:

West Ham eyeing Rangers’ Connor Goldson

An update has emerged regarding English Premier League interest in Rangers defender Connor Goldson.

What’s the talk?

According to Football Insider, West Ham are lining up a January swoop for the Gers centre-back.

The report claims the Hammers are one of the clubs eyeing the former Brighton man, who is out of contract at Ibrox at the end of the season. Rangers are said to have rejected offers for him over the summer and are looking to extend his deal in order to avoid losing him on a free transfer.

Fans would love it

Rangers chief Ross Wilson must now work his magic to ensure that a nightmare situation does not arise in the January transfer window. Fans will not want the club to be in a position where they could be forced to accept a lowball offer for Goldson due to the threat of losing him for nothing at the end of the season.

If the Gers are unable to agree a new contract with the defender, he could then leave on a free transfer next summer and Premier League clubs such as West Ham could simply wait to snap him up. Alternatively, they could submit a cut-price offer in January to convince Rangers to cash in on him at the last possible opportunity.

This is why Wilson must work hard to persuade the 28-year-old to extend his contract at Ibrox rather than leaving to chase a Premier League dream. There is no guarantee that Goldson will return to England and be a regular starter at West Ham and he will be 29 in December, which means he may not have the time to wait and fight for his place in the Irons’ starting XI.

Therefore, the Rangers chief could make this point to him and suggest that staying in Scotland could be the best decision for his career. He gets to compete for trophies and play in Europe for Steven Gerrard’s side, as he lined up at centre-back against Ligue 1 side Lyon on Thursday night.

Fans would love it if the defender put pen to paper on a new deal as he is a crucial member of the squad. Earlier this year, Goldson was hailed as a “mountain” in the defence for Rangers by Gerrard, who told The Scotsman: “Connor has been an absolute mountain for this team, a warrior.

“I can’t describe to you how well he has done for this team, not just in terms of what you have seen on the pitch but also his leadership on the inside of the club and his availability every single day.”

He also averaged a sublime SofaScore rating of 7.39 as he helped Rangers to keep an astonishing 26 clean sheets in 38 appearances last season in the Premiership. This shows how strong he has been at the back for the Gers and why fans would be over the moon if he signs a new contract, as it would secure his future at the club in the wake of West Ham’s reported interest.

West Ham gifted McKennie boost

According to Italian news outlet Tuttosport, as translated by TRANSFERmarketWEB, West Ham United and new head of recruitment Rob Newman have been gifted a boost in the race to sign Weston McKennie.

The Lowdown: Newman era begins…

As officially announced, the Hammers have now begun a new era at the London Stadium with former Manchester City chief Newman taking on the club’s fresh head of recruitment position.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-developments/” title=”West Ham developments!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Indeed, the 57-year-old will oversee West Ham’s scouting and transfer strategy in a bid to elevate David Moyes’ men to the next level.

Recently, reports have come out indicating that Newman has already set his sights on his first West Ham target.

As per Football Insider, the Irons have already started laying the groundwork to sign USA international McKennie with talks being held.

It is also believed that the 23-year-old is ‘very keen’ on a move to London and the Premier League.

The Latest: Newman gifted McKennie boost…

As per the latest from Italy, it appears Newman and West Ham have been given a boost in the race to sign McKennie for Moyes.

Tuttosport, shared by TRANSFERmarketWEB, say that Juventus are now ready to sanction his sale and could do it as soon as the January transfer window.

The Old Lady apparently want to lodge a bid for 21-year-old Monaco sensation Aurelien Tchouameni and the sale of McKennie may well help them to do that.

The Verdict: Get it done…

As Juve’s stance becomes crystal clear, now may be the perfect time for West Ham to strike a pre-January agreement amid their alleged behind-scenes talks.

Lauded as an ‘outstanding’ player by former Premier League boss David Wagner, it is clear to see that McKennie’s ceiling is vast given he has already racked up 25 caps for the USA at such a young age.

He could add real steel to the Hammers midfield and come as an alternative option to Tomas Soucek, offering an immediate replacement to the outgoing Mark Noble.

Crystal Palace set their sights on Eddie Nketiah

Crystal Palace are reportedly ready to pay a substantial fee to bring unwanted Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah to the club this summer.

What’s the story?

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Palace are prepared to table an offer of £10 million for the 22-year-old as new manager Patrick Vieira looks to add more firepower to his first-team squad.

The report also states that the same valuation is thought shared by an unnamed team in Germany, who are believed to have seen two approaches knocked back by the Gunners as they attempt to achieve a price of around £20m for their academy graduate.

Ornstein also states that Brighton and Hove Albion explored the possibility of including Nketiah as part of the deal that took Ben White in the opposite direction for £50m earlier this month.

However, that prospect didn’t appeal to Arsenal as they were focused on tying Nketiah down to fresh terms at that moment in time, although their efforts to do so have so far proved unsuccessful.

Crystal Palace fans will be delighted

News that the Palace hierarchy are potentially set to launch a bid for Nketiah will surely leave a large section of the club’s supporters feeling delighted.

The Eagles have struggled to consistently put the ball in the back of the net in recent years, and have drawn a blank in their opening two Premier League games of the new campaign, highlighting the need for attacking reinforcements in the current window.

Andros Townsend’s departure and the conclusion of Michy Batshuayi’s 12-month loan spell exaggerated the capital club’s issues in the final third of the pitch, and Vieira will be desperate for it to be addressed before the August 31st deadline.

After rising through the ranks impressively at his boyhood club, Nketiah was sent out on loan to Leeds United in the first half of the 2019/20 campaign, where the England Under-21 international scored five goals in 19 appearances.

Nevertheless, Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa only started the youngster twice in the league during his time at Elland Road, leading to Nketiah being recalled by his parent club prematurely.

The diminutive forward has had mixed success since, bagging 13 goals in 65 games for Arsenal, although the majority of his outings have come via cameo appearances from the bench.

With the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ahead of him in Mikel Arteta’s pecking order, Nketiah may be forced to seek pastures new this summer, and Selhurst Park could be an ideal destination for the youngster.

Michael Ball hopes Ryan Kent stays at Rangers one more season

Former Rangers defender Michael Ball hopes that Ryan Kent stays at the club for one more season.

The winger has been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer with the Daily Mirror claiming Leeds United are interested and the Rangers man is somebody that manager Marcelo Bielsa has liked for a long time.

Kent featured in Rangers’ Scottish Premiership opening day 3-0 victory against Livingston over the weekend.

The left-winger scored 13 goals and provided a further 15 for his teammates in all competitions and helped Rangers to their first league title in a decade.

After continuing to impress for Rangers, former Ger Michael Ball is hoping that Kent stays at Ibrox for one more season, exclusively telling Football FanCast: “I think they’ll be disappointed if Ryan moves on this summer, hopefully, fingers crossed for Steven and the Rangers fans that Ryan can entertain the Ibrox fans for one more season.”

Steven Gerrard will no doubt be hoping to keep hold of one of his prized assets this summer and build on last season’s success.

After opening up with a victory on Saturday in the SPL, attention will now turn to the UEFA Champions League qualifying match against Malmo on Tuesday night.

Pundit urges Spurs to sign Tammy Abraham if Harry Kane leaves

Paul Stewart believes Tottenham Hotspur should target Chelsea outcast Tammy Abraham if Harry Kane forces through a move away from the club.

Kane has made no secret of the fact he is looking to leave his boyhood club this summer, with the England captain looking to challenge for more silverware elsewhere after growing frustrated with Spurs’ lack of progress on the pitch.

Last season’s Premier League Golden Boot and Playmaker award winner has attracted interest from Manchester City, who are keen to secure Kane and Aston Villa talisman Jack Grealish before the transfer window closes.

While Spurs are determined to keep Kane, the situation was made more difficult after the marksman failed to return to training after an extended pre-season break following his involvement at Euro 2020.

Stewart believes the north Londoners must pinpoint potential targets should Kane depart and has earmarked Abraham as an ideal replacement.

The striker, 23, has made just seven appearances since Thomas Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard as Chelsea’s head coach in January.

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, former Spurs man Stewart said: “We know Tammy Abraham is surplus at Chelsea, so he’s an option.”

Newcastle may sign more if Hayden goes

Newcastle United have now been backed to bring in more players before the summer transfer window ends, on one condition.

The Lowdown: Hayden going?

According to Football Insider, Watford have now ‘set their sights’ on signing Hayden, and it is understood that the central midfield player is ‘keen’ on a move to Vicarage Road before the window closes.

A source from the Hornets has claimed that they are now interested in signing him, and a potential move down south appears to have turned his head.

The Latest: Campbell claim

Speaking to Football Insider, Campbell, who is now a pundit after playing as a striker for the likes of Everton and Arsenal, has now claimed that he can see the St. James’ Park faithful bringing more players in, so long as they sell Hayden first of all:

“Newcastle need to move and shake and freshen things up and if he leaves I think they could bring in one or two more.

“I think they need that. A couple of fresh faces could revitalise that team. They’ve been stagnant for a little while now.

“If he wants to go down back down south you don’t stand in his way if the money is right.

“Let him leave and get somebody else in. I’m sure Newcastle will have targets.”

The Verdict: Keep and add more!

If the North East club are to avoid a potential relegation battle this season, then they need to keep hold of Hayden and add more players in the squad around him.

Dubbed an ‘outstanding’ player by Magpies legend Alan Shearer after impressing in their 3-2 home win against Southampton in the Premier League back in February, Hayden was a key player on Tyneside in the last term, winning no fewer than 5.5 of his duels per game, as well as averaging 2.2 tackles, 1.9 clearances and 1.8 interceptions per match (Sofascore).

With just Joe Willock signed so far, who was part of the squad anyway from January onwards in a loan spell from Arsenal, the Toon need to bring in some more bodies as soon as possible, given that the deadline is ticking.

Bruce will be ‘fighting’ to keep ASM

Kevin Phillips reckons Steve Bruce is ‘having talks’ with Allan Saint-Maximin in a bid to persuade the player to stay put.

The lowdown

According to The Mirror, former Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has identified Saint-Maximin as his preferred replacement should Everton star Richarlison follow Carlo Ancelotti to Real Madrid.

Having committed him to a six-year contract as recently as October, Newcastle have apparently slappeed a £60million price-tag on the Frenchman.

But Saint-Maximin has ‘warned’ the club that they must be able to ‘match his ambitions’.

Last season, he scored three goals and provided four assists in 19 Premier League starts for the Magpies (via WhoScored).

The 24-year-old comfortably led the squad for completed dribbles per 90 with 3.8 (compared to 1.6 for nearest challenger Joe Willock).

The latest

Former Sunderland striker Phillips says Bruce will be ‘fighting’ to ensure Saint-Maximin’s head isn’t turned by the reported interest from Goodison Park because he’s a crucial asset to Newcastle.

“When you lose one of your best players it’s a big blow because it’s very difficult to replace them,” he told Football Insider.

“So Steve will be fighting in the background. I’m sure he’s having talks with him, trying to keep the player from Everton’s clutches and to keep him happy.

“But he has signed a new deal so the Newcastle fans will be hoping that he’ll stay.”

The verdict

If anything, a £60million price tag seems a little generous. Saint-Maximin’s direct goal contribution numbers may not be spectacular, but his ability is there for all to see and he’d almost certainly go up a level at a side with more attacking intent.

With such a lengthy contract, Newcastle probably ought to make their demands even more prohibitive. A Richarlison sale to Real Madrid would put huge funds in Everton’s pocket too, all the more reason for the Magpies to play hard to get until they see an offer they simply can’t refuse.

The other possibility, of course, is that the club are being more realistic. With a ‘meagre’ transfer budget, perhaps they can’t rule out a mega-money sale as a means of investing more comprehensively in the rest of the squad.

Fry: Luke Dowling’s West Brom exit a huge blow - Exclusive

Luke Dowling’s recent departure from West Brom is a “huge blow”, claims Peterborough director of football Barry Fry.

The Midlands club confirmed last month that Dowling, who held the position of sporting and technical director, had mutually agreed to leave The Hawthorns.

According to Football Insider, West Brom are unlikely to appoint a successor as they look to scrap the director of football model and allow new manager Valerien Ismael to work directly with the recruitment team.

For Fry, West Brom losing Dowling, who he feels is not at fault for the Baggies’ relegation to the Championship, is a massive setback.

“That’s a huge blow,” Fry said in an exclusive interview with FFC. “Luke’s very good at what he does, recruitment and all that.

“They’re in a bit of a turmoil this year, not entirely his fault. I mean, they didn’t do too much when they got promoted, did they, in the market? So they were always going to struggle.

“They were always sort of odds-on favourites from day one to go down, so I don’t find that’s his fault.”

Indeed, it was a difficult season for Dowling, Sam Allardyce and Slaven Bilic, who was, of course, West Brom’s manager when the 2020/21 campaign started.

With Ismael now in charge, however, there is reason to be optimistic. The 43-year-old managed to take Barnsley to the play-offs last term, so he does look like a capable coach at this level.

Fenerbahce eyeing Yarmolenko

An update has emerged on West Ham forward Andriy Yarmolenko, regarding Fenerbache’s interest in signing him this summer…

What’s the talk?

According to Turkish outlet Sabah, Fenerbahce are interested in signing West Ham forward Andriy Yarmolenko this summer and are preparing to make a move to land him.

The report claims that the Hammers are willing to part ways with the attacker, who has one year left on his contract, although no price tag has been mentioned for the player signed from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in 2018.

Rinsing GSB dry

David Moyes must ruthlessly axe Yarmolenko from his squad this summer amid this reported interest from the Turkish giants.

The Hammers should be looking to cash in on him as quickly as possible if any side comes in with a reasonable offer for his services, whether that be on loan with a view to him leaving as a free agent next summer or on a permanent basis.

A transfer fee for Yarmolenko should not be West Ham’s primary concern as his wages are the real issue. The 31-year-old is reportedly the club’s top earner and has been rinsing GSB dry since he arrived at the club. He is said to be on £115k-per-week at the London Stadium.

Yarmolenko joined West Ham in the summer of 2018. In the time since, he has missed 57 competitive games due to injury in his three years at the club. This illustrates how tough of a time he has found it in England, with constant knocks and blows stunning his progress in the Premier League. He has only started 16 Premier League games in three seasons, scoring seven and assisting two goals.

Speaking in 2019, Yarmolenko’s West Ham teammate Declan Rice labelled him as a “special” player and lavished praise on his “beautiful” left foot.

He told West Ham’s official website:

“He’s top. The technique he has got on him is really special. In training, sometimes the lads say ‘Wow’ as they’ve never seen anything like it. His left foot is beautiful so I’m buzzing that he has got another goal.”

This, along with his nine goal contributions in 16 league starts, shows that his quality is not in question and that he can be a great player on his day. However, his days have been few and far between due to circumstances out of his control and GSB cannot afford to keep emptying their pockets on a player who is rarely available for selection because of his injury problems. Therefore, he must be let go ahead of next season to make way for other additions.

AND in other news, West Ham could now land £75k-p/w beast “in the coming days”, fans will be buzzing…
