Huge blow for Wrexham! Summer signing needs surgery on dislocated elbow & faces 'significant period of time out'

Wrexham’s fairytale return to the Championship has been rocked by a gutting injury to hometown hero Danny Ward, who is set to go under the knife on Friday after dislocating his elbow in a sickening collision. The 32-year-old shot-stopper, who only rejoined the club this summer following his Leicester City exit, crashed to the turf during a bruising clash with Millwall at The Den. Although Wrexham went on to secure a gritty 2-0 win, Ward’s injury marred the victory.

After some lengthy treatment, the 'keeper was stretchered off before being taken to the hospital. The seriousness of the injury became clear as boss Phil Parkinson admitted afterwards he was “fearing the worst.” Those fears were confirmed early this week.

WHAT PARKINSON SAID

Parkinson delivered the grim update, saying: “It is really bad news for us with Danny and, more importantly, for himself. It is a dislocated elbow but when you do a dislocation, you have ligament damage which needs rectifying. He faces an operation on Friday and he will obviously have a significant period of time out.

"I think the specialist has said we won't know until he has actually done the operation and put a timescale on that but obviously it is a serious injury and our thoughts are with Danny. It is part and parcel of football picking up injuries and he will come back at some point this season ready to play his part."

DID YOU KNOW?

Ward’s injury is doubly cruel given he had just been recalled to Craig Bellamy’s Wales squad for their crunch World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan. With Leeds United keeper Carl Darlow his main rival, Ward had been in line for a potential starting berth.

Parkinson admitted the timing could not have been worse: "Danny was all set to go away with Wales. I think the fact he had been playing (for Wrexham) has got him in a good place for getting back into the Welsh starting line-up. I don't know what Craig was thinking but it is so frustrating for us and for him. The goalkeeping department was a problem we didn't really need so late in the window."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The move would see Silva choose Champions League football with Sporting over the chance to remain in England with Leeds. The player is reportedly excited by the prospect of working again with manager Rui Borges and competing for the Portuguese title. Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis had initially preferred a permanent sale for the player they signed for €7 million last summer, but is now believed to be satisfied with the structured loan deal for a player who has fallen out of favour under Nuno Espirito Santo.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

A key motivation for Silva's decision is the 2026 World Cup. The winger believes a successful, high-profile season at Sporting will significantly boost his chances of earning a recall to Roberto Martinez's Portugal squad. He has two international caps but lost his place after becoming a fringe player at the City Ground.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The transfer provides an escape route for Bennacer, who has fallen to the fringes of the first-team project at Milan and has reportedly had a difficult relationship with the club for some time. This is his second loan move in 2025, following a five-month spell at Marseille earlier in the year where he failed to convince the Ligue 1 side to exercise their €13 million (£11m/$15m) purchase option. The move to Croatia is seen as an opportunity for the midfielder to relaunch his career.

Bennacer will now travel to Zagreb to undergo a medical before officially signing his contract. His primary objective will be to secure regular playing time and rediscover his form in both the Croatian top flight and Dinamo's European campaign. For AC Milan, the loan provides a temporary solution for a player not in their plans. They will monitor his progress before a final decision on his long-term future is made next summer, with the midfielder still under contract at the San Siro until June 2027.

How many players have played over 150 IPL matches?

And how many Test series have there been where no one from a team has scored a hundred?

Steven Lynch10-Apr-2018Was KL Rahul’s half-century the other the day the fastest in the IPL? Or all T20 cricket? asked Suresh Shroff from India
KL Rahul’s 14-ball onslaught for Kings XI Punjab against Delhi Daredevils in Mohali on the weekend was the fastest fifty in the history of the IPL, beating Yusuf Pathan’s 15-ball effort for Kolkata Knight Riders against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens in 2014.The fastest fifties in all T20 cricket have come from just 12 deliveries. Yuvraj Singh set the record for India against England in Durban during the inaugural World T20 in 2007, in the innings in which he smashed Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over. Chris Gayle equalled the 12-ball mark for Melbourne Renegades against Adelaide Strikers in Melbourne’s Docklands Stadium, during the 2015-16 Big Bash. The recent controversial series in South Africa – in which Australia’s highest score was Mitchell Marsh’s 96 in the win in Durban – was the first of four Tests or more in which no Australian scored a century since 1969-70… in South Africa, when their best effort was Bill Lawry’s 83 in Cape Town. Australia famously lost that series 4-0.The only five-Test series in which no Australian scored a century was in England in 1956, when Richie Benaud’s 97 at Lord’s was their best effort of a rubber dominated by Jim Laker, who took 46 wickets.England have gone through three different five-Test series without registering an individual hundred: against West Indies in 1963 (the highest score was 87 by Micky Stewart at Old Trafford), against Australia in 1972 (Brian Luckhurst 96 at Trent Bridge), and in the West Indies in 1985-86 (David Gower 90 in Antigua). No West Indian reached three figures during their five-Test series in South Africa in 1998-99, the highest score being Carl Hooper’s 86 in Cape Town.Who made almost 35,000 runs and scored more than 50 hundreds in first-class cricket without ever making a double-century? asked Madhav Gokhale from Egypt
This long-serving player was the former Yorkshire, Somerset and England captain Brian Close, who ended his lengthy career with 34,994 runs and 52 centuries but a highest score of 198, for Yorkshire against Surrey at The Oval in June 1960. Later that season Close also made 184 against Nottinghamshire in Scarborough. The only other batsmen to amass more than 30,000 first-class runs without the aid of a double-century were Arthur Milton (32,150 with 56 hundreds, the highest 170 for Gloucestershire v Sussex at Cheltenham in 1965) and James Langridge (31,716 runs, 42 hundreds, highest 167 for Sussex v Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge in 1936). Royal Challengers discover a bowling attack

And in Tim Southee, they may have also found a solution for the end-overs issues that plagued them through the first half of the season

Shashank Kishore in Bengaluru02-May-20181:27

We were adaptable with our bowling – Southee

“” (This time the cup is ours) is a popular slogan Royal Challengers Bangalore have adopted from Bengaluru Football Club (BFC), their next door neighbours. BFC proudly wore the tag during a stunning debut season in the Indian Super League, which ended in a heartbreaking loss in the final. The slogan has resonated across the city, so much that even AB de Villiers’ son and wife were proudly saying it loud to their autorickshaw driver in Kannada. If RCB are now looking for a new one for the second half of the season, “we can defend totals” won’t be a bad place to start. For five successive games at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, going back to the previous season, they had failed to do so. Two nights ago, Virat Kohli went to the extent of calling his team’s bowling “not good enough” and “shocking” after seeing a defence of 175 go cold against Kolkata Knight Riders. Last week, he called the bowling “criminal” as MS Dhoni’s brutal ball-striking took Chennai Super Kings home with four balls to spare in a chase of 206, after needing 71 off the last five overs. Now, against Mumbai Indians, a win was non-negotiable if RCB had to keep their playoff ambitions burning, and Kohli, surprisingly, was at his calmest. At the halfway mark, a sense of calm emanated from his team even as Mitchell McClenaghan sat on his haunches, having conceded 24 off the final over, of which Colin de Grandhomme, his New Zealand team-mate, had smacked 21.At the dugout, two other Kiwis, Brendon McCullum and head coach Daniel Vettori, exchanged fist bumps even as another, their former team-mate and current Mumbai bowling coach Shane Bond, scribbled furiously into his notepad. RCB had put up 167, which Bond later said was “15 above par.”Where Mumbai’s quicks tried to change pace and hit hard lengths, Tim Southee went full. This length allowed him to swerve one back in to clean bowl Ishan Kishan in the first over. It was up to Umesh Yadav to keep up his side of the bargain. For the third time this season, he struck off consecutive balls in the Powerplay, dismissing Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma with good-length deliveries that cut back in sharply. As was the case on Sunday, there was grip and turn off the surface. Yuzvendra Chahal turned it square and bowled out by the 13th over with figures of 4-0-23-0. Umesh was done by the 15th, with 2 for 29.The game wasn’t yet in RCB’s bag, since the offspinner Washington Sundar, who had replaced M Ashwin, had endured an off day, conceding 15 in his first over. Where a bit of air and revs could have helped him extract turn off the surface, he had bowled flat, into Hardik Pandya’s hitting arc.ESPNcricinfo LtdWith Kohli not trusting Sundar with another over, he finally turned to de Grandhomme, who hadn’t bowled a ball in his first two matches of the season – with Corey Anderson trusted at the death ahead of him – and in this game had batted behind Southee. Given de Grandhomme’s international form and T20 record, those moves – especially the latter – might have puzzled Anderson and Southee, his New Zealand team-mates, as much as anyone.Having earlier shown what he could do with the bat, de Grandhomme now conceded only 11 off his first two overs, somewhat making up for a third over, the 16th, that went for 17. The game was now in the balance, with Mumbai needing 45 off four overs with Hardik on 40 off 33 and his brother Krunal on 16 off 10.Kohli had solved one problem, but now had another. Bowling out Umesh by the 15th over meant he had look Mohammed Siraj’s way despite him going at an economy rate of 9.44 in his five games so far. His death bowling may have raised questions over his utility, but he sent down a reasonable 17th, conceding only 10 to set it up for Southee, who was to bowl the 18th and the 20th over. The equation was within the reach of the Pandya brothers, but Southee made it 30 off 12 with an outstanding 18th over, mixing up slower offcutters and two searing full ones, in or around the blockhole. The pressure told on Krunal, who fell trying a scoop over short fine-leg off Siraj in the next over, and RCB could breathe a little easier. Defending 25 off the last over, Southee dismissed Hardik first ball, caught at long-off, and closed out the game with dots off his third, fourth and fifth balls. For the first time, a bowling attack that Kohli had referred to as RCB’s “best ever” before the season had delivered. It was also perhaps the first time this season that Kohli wasn’t constantly in his bowlers’ ears at all times. It was also the first time this season that bowling coach Ashish Nehra sported his trademark wide grin in the dugout. It might be too early for their fans to chant “”, but RCB’s fate was still in their hands.
