Southampton fans reject Jordan Ayew link in unison

[ad_pod ]

Following reports that Southampton are after Jordan Ayew, Saints fans have taken to Twitter to voice their despair and concerns with the direction of the board in the transfer market.

And understandably so, seeing as Southampton have flirted with relegation in the previous two seasons and much of that is due to a lack of goalscoring prowess.

Shane Long, Danny Ings and Charlie Austin have not been noted for their ability to find the net regularly recently, and their fortunes going forward are unlikely to change with the signing of Ayew.

The Ghanaian scored just two goals last season in a loan spell at Crystal Palace, one of which came against Grimsby in the FA Cup. It is not exactly a signing that inspires optimism amongst a fanbase that is desperate for signs of ambition, and a return to the top half of the Premier League which they enjoyed just two years ago.

Worse still, Ayew has now underperformed at three different clubs in the Premier League: Aston Villa, Swansea and Crystal Palace. That fact is not lost on Saints fans, who unanimously disapprove of the targeting of Ayew.

Here are some of the reactions from the less than pleased supporters of the south coast outfit:

Transfer Focus: Rangers better off investing in current talent like than moving for Matty Willock

[ad_pod ]

Rangers are interested in signing Matty Willock this summer after he was released by Manchester United, according to website Football Insider.

What’s the story?

Willock was one of the players announced to be let go by the English giants on Friday having failed to make the breakthrough at Old Trafford.

Football Insider reference Ibrox sources who have told them that the club are preparing a move for the 22-year-old, who is obviously now available on a free transfer this summer.

Willock has playing experience in Scotland having spent time out on loan at St Johnstone and St Mirren in recent seasons, making 26 appearances between the two clubs.

Watch how to cross the road like a boss with freestyler Ben Nuttall in the video below…

Worth a move?

Players don’t last at Manchester United into their 20s unless they have some sort of talent but it’s fair to say that Willock might be operating at a level lower than Rangers need right now.

His last three loans have been at the two Scottish sides mentioned and in League Two with Crawley Town.

It doesn’t exactly inspire confidence he can make the step up to performing regularly for Rangers, even if he does have a Man United education behind him.

Even on a free transfer a move for him doesn’t make much sense, considering the amount of central midfielders Steven Gerrard already has available.

Gers talents

When you consider a player like Greg Docherty, who was a stand-out in League One with Shrewsbury Town last season, hasn’t been able to break into Gerrard’s plans, it demonstrates how difficult it would be for Willock to.

Other young stars like Ross McCrorie are also more deserving of playing time having made excellent progress in the Rangers team over the last 12 months..

The Gers should be investing playing time in talents like that rather than bringing in failed prospects from other academies.

Mixed opinions: Tottenham fans struggle to agree on Fernando Llorente future

[ad_pod ]

Fernando Llorente could yet have a future at Tottenham Hotspur.

Indeed, according to Sky Sports News, Spurs are considering opening contract talks with the experienced centre-forward.

Llorente’s current deal with the London club will expire at the end of next month.

It had been thought that the 34-year-old would be leaving the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer in search of pastures news.

However, Sky Sports News have reported that Mauricio Pochettino’s side could yet hand the towering striker a fresh deal.

Watch the best fails from the world of indoor football in the video below…

Llorente has scored eight times in 34 appearances for Spurs this season.

Just one of those strikes have come in the Premier League, but he has netted twice in the Champions League and caused Ajax a lot of problems off the bench in their second leg of the semi-final.

The Tottenham fans have been on social media offering their views on the report.

And it would be fair to say that there are a lot of differing opinions:

Celtic fans don’t like the idea of selling Jozo Simunovic

[ad_pod ]

Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic is a transfer target for Spanish side Alaves this summer, according to The Scottish Sun.

The paper say that the La Liga outfit could make a £4m move for him in the upcoming transfer window.

The centre-back has made 109 career appearances for the Hoops since joining in 2015 and this season has taken to the pitch 29 times.

He’s become a key part of interim manager Neil Lennon’s team in recent months with injuries to Filip Benkovic and Dedryck Boyata hampering Celtic’s campaign.

Heading into a busy few months of summer qualifiers, letting Simunovic go could be seen as something of a mistake considering only Jack Hendry and Marvin Compper are available to partner Kristoffer Ajer in his absence.

Finding two quality replacements for Benkovic and Boyata will be hard enough for club in the upcoming transfer window without seeking one for Simunovic too.

Celtic supporters certainly don’t appear keen to let him leave so quickly, taking to Twitter this week to share their thoughts on the potential deal…

Celtic fans want to see the club make a move for former player Erik Sviatchenko

[ad_pod ]

Celtic fans are keen to see the club make a summer transfer move for Erik Sviatchenko, after he was linked with a move away from current side FC Midtjylland.

Turkish outlet Aksam reported over the weekend that the player could be making the switch to Trabzonspor this summer for a fee as low as €2m (£1.8m).

Sviatchenko left Celtic last year after falling out of favour with then manager Brendan Rodgers.

Leigh Griffiths is ready and raring to go for Celtic next season. One fan discusses what we can expect from him in the video below…

He was ultimately replaced by Jack Hendry and Marvin Compper, who have both since flopped at the club, and many Hoops fans are still baffled as to why the club got rid of the Danish defender.

Some feel he is still absolutely a viable option to be one of Neil Lennon’s centre-backs next season, with the squad badly needing strengthening in that area after the departures of Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic.

These supporters have taken to Twitter over the last 48 hours to share their thoughts…

Transfer Focus: A Benkovic return to Celtic would make fans forget all about Boyata

[ad_pod ]

Filip Benkovic has admitted his future next season is uncertain, refusing to rule out a return to Celtic, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

What’s he said?

While there’s definitely been hits and misses when it comes to loans at Celtic it can’t be denied that it has allowed the club access to a quality of player that otherwise wouldn’t be at the club.

The £13m Benkovic definitely falls into that category, delighting supporters this season with solid defensive displays in the Hoops’ backline.

Due to return to parent club Leicester City this summer for assessment by Brendan Rodgers, the player has admitted this week he doesn’t know what his future holds.

He has loved his time at Celtic, which has culminated in being called up to the Croatian national team for the first time, something he reckons the club have played a instrumental role in.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he said:

“I honestly believe there are other players who are more deserving of a call-up than me, but I have been waiting for my chance for a while.

“I’ve had a really successful year at Celtic and I have to thank them for the positive things they have done for me this year which has led to the call-up.

“I can’t talk about what club I will be at next year because nothing is known yet and might not be for some time, probably only after all my international duties this summer.

“But all I can say is that I have really enjoyed my time at Celtic, I have had some great moments here, I have a successful season, enjoyed my football and I will never regret it.”

Clearly the door has been left open for a potential Glasgow return, but will the stars align for a deal to happen?

Do Celtic have a chance of signing him again?

Leicester boss Rodgers told The Daily Record earlier this month that if Benkovic goes out on loan again this summer then he’d want it to be to Celtic, so the chance of being part of the club’s nine-in-a-row push is strong.

Rodgers has four defenders already at the club and it’ll all be about what kind of impact the Croatian can make in pre-season.

On the Hoops side of things, the club seem keen on making a move for him, with the player himself revealing to The Scottish Sun he’s been told there is interest.

What if Celtic were to actually fail in their bid for the ‘treble treble’? A Celtic fan dicsusses in the video below…

How much do Celtic need him?

Having just lost first-pick defender Dedryck Boyata to Hertha Berlin, Celtic are in serious need of quality defensive additions in the upcoming transfer window and re-signing Benkovic would quickly make Hoops supporters forget all about the Belgian.

Benkovic, Jozo Simunovic and Kristoffer Ajer is a solid centre-back three that could do with another to provide back-up.

If Benkovic does not return, it’ll likely require serious investment from the club to replace his presence.

What about Mbappe? Newcastle fans aren’t happy with Mooy links

[ad_pod ]

The Evening Chronicle have compiled a list of potential Newcastle United transfer targets, and the inclusion of Aaron Mooy has really got fans talking.

The Magpies will almost certainly need new signings in the middle third this summer, as three first team midfielders could leave the club.

Mo Diame will be out of contract, Isaac Hayden is expected to depart to be closer to his family, while Jonjo Shelvey could leave in search of regular playing time.

With that in mind, it is no surprise to see the Chronicle’s list of targets include Mooy, as well as James McCarthy and Joao Mario.

According to the report, Benitez and Newcastle have admired the Australian international for quite some time.

He scored seven times and added four assists across two Premier League seasons with Huddersfield, and certainly has the work rate and energy required to play in a Benitez midfield.

Fans on Twitter aren’t too fond though, mainly due to the rumours of a big-money takeover, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

Spurs should give up on reported target Ceballos after mixed messages

[ad_pod ]

Dani Ceballos has issued mixed messages over his future at Real Madrid after being linked with Tottenham Hotspur, per Onda Cero via Marca.

What’s the word?

El Des Marque reported in May that Spurs are “the main player” in the hunt to secure the signature of the midfielder.

However, he has now said that he has a lengthy contract at the Spanish club, of which manager Zinedine Zidane has reminded him, and that he does not expect to leave the Santiago Bernabeu.

He said: “Zidane was very clear with me. I’ve accepted his explanations.

“I have a contract with a very high release clause.

“I have four years on my contract and I want to succeed at Real Madrid.”

But, in the same interview, Ceballos has outlined his conditions for an exit from the club.

He added: “If I leave I want to play for a team where I feel important.

“I want to show that I can compete at any team in Europe.

“I’m a young player who wants to succeed so I don’t want to have another year without playing.”

A thorny issue

This looks like a complicated deal for Spurs to do.

His release clause stands at €500m (£444.1m) and, while Real are unlikely to demand a figure of such a magnitude, his current deal runs until 2023.

The club are almost certain to ensure that they receive the highest possible fee for a player who has yet to reach his peak, then.

He made 34 appearances in all competitions this season and Real are not exactly known for letting their hottest prospects leave for negligible fees.

Spurs do need midfield reinforcements this summer but this deal may well be beyond their reach.

There are other targets out there – Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele immediately spring to mind – and perhaps they should focus on them instead.
